Tarot offers a mirror to the soul. The cards depict our emotional and spiritual landscape and provide insight into our innermost selves. The cards validate our intuitive sense of knowing and open us up to greater awareness. By looking inward with a fresh perspective, we grow deeper in understanding of our lives, and gain confidence in walking the path of our destiny.  Join tarot teacher, Laura Campagna, for a fun workshop to learn how to read tarot. No experience necessary. Participants will connect with their intuition and gain confidence in reading for themselves or friends.

This is event is for teens in 7th grade and older. Bring your deck (if you have one!). Registration is recommended to guarantee your spot!

VIRTUAL - Meet the Author: Stefan Al

Register Here:  https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/6216597388937/WN_CSEw21acSFiGyc4T4BKUoA

We are living in a new urban age and its most tangible expression is the “supertall” building, megastructures that are dramatically bigger, higher, and more ambitious than any in history. Author, architect, and TED-Resident Stefan Al has worked on some of the largest buildings in the world. He reveals the advancements in engineering, design, and data science that have led to this worldwide boom. Drawing on examples from the past (the Empire State Building, St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Eiffel Tower) and present (Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, London’s Shard, Shanghai Tower), he describes how the most remarkable skyscrapers have been designed and built.

Al explores the ingenious technological innovations in cement, wind resistance, elevator design, and air-conditioning that have made megastructures like the 160-stories-high Burj Khalifa a reality. And he examines the risks of wealth inequality, carbon emissions, and contagion these buildings yield, arguing for a more sustainable, resilient, and equitable built environment for everyone.

This program is made possible by generous donors to the Cary Library Foundation.

In partnership with Belmont Public Library, Canton Public Library, Needham Free Public Library, Maynard Public Library, and Newton Free Library.

Canton Strategy Boardgame Night

Have a good time and play some strategy board games. Learn, teach and have fun.

You do not need to own any games to take part, group members will bring their own games along for the group to play; this allows people to try many different games to find which ones they enjoy.  The library will have games available for people to use.

This library event is being hosted by volunteers and we could use some more help. If you would like to help host the club with us, please contact outreach librarian Carolyn Elkort at celkort@ocln.org

Open Book Coffeehouse with Bookmatch (Live)

The Open Book Coffeehouse is proud to announce that it will open its eighteenth year of offering quality and varied live music for the coming 2022-2023 season. The series kicks off on Saturday evening, October 15th, featuring folk duo Bookmatch. The coffeehouse is located at the Canton Public Library, 786 Washington Street, Canton MA 02021.

Doors open at 6:45 PM; music starts at 7:30 PM.

Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for students of any age. Tickets are available that evening on a first come, first serve basis.

Two kindred spirits joined by their love for acoustic music that touches the heart, G Rockwell and Micah Nicol marry virtuosic instrumentals and tender vocals in their project Bookmatch. Named after the practice of aligning two pieces of wood so that they look like mirror images of each other, Bookmatch's members approach the same genre and instruments from a different background yielding musical alchemy that brings audiences in for a warm hug of an intertwining acoustic guitar soundscape.

Don’t miss the mesmerizing and superbly accomplished Bookmatch.

We are thrilled to be chatting with authors Piper J. Drake, Mia Manansala, Sarah Echavarre Smith, and Jesse Q. Sutanto about their journeys to becoming published (and fantastic!) authors, keeping in mind their diverse Southeast Asian backgrounds. Whether they were born in the US or elsewhere (in fact, Jesse is joining us from Indonesia!), we wonder how their heritage has influenced their writing, characters, publishing journey, and fan base. It's sure to be a fascinating conversation!

Haunted Library

Celebrate the spookiest season of the year at the first ever Haunted Library. This Halloween, dark forces will descend upon the library and some of our most popular programs, services, and collections will transform into twisted, terrifying versions of themselves. Witness the horror for yourself on a guided tour--if you dare!

On Saturday night, the new ghoulish residents of the Haunted Library will be at their most frightening. Entrance will be limited to visitors aged 12 and up.

On Sunday afternoon (from 2-5pm), the light of day will help to brighten the shadows and tame the terrors. Families with children are welcome.

Both events will be free for everyone.
