Tai Chi for Teens

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese martial art form which helps with the integration of mind and body. It revolves around cultivating life energy, or Qi, which flows smoothly and powerfully. It is much more than exercise--some potential benefits include body awareness, mindfulness, balance, focus, calmness, flexibility, coordination, muscle strength, improved immunity, and internal and external strength and grace.

This class is designed to teach teens not only the gentle movements of Tai Chi but also how to be patient and persevere in a practice that takes time to develop. Our Western mindset is challenged with this Eastern concept of regular practice and patience.

This class runs for 10 weeks. Sign up once for the whole series!

Get access to Calm Premium for free!

Canton residents aged 11-18 with a library card can now check out a 2-month subscription to the premium version of the Calm app. Calm can help young people learn to use meditation and mindfulness to reduce their stress and anxiety, and the available sleep stories can help users fall asleep and sleep better.

Teens and tweens should fill out this form, and we will email them instructions on accessing the app through the library. Once all our licenses are being used, there will be a waitlist, and we'll let you know when it's your turn. Visit us at the library if you don't have a card!

These programs are made possible by federal funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

All high school students who are interested in volunteering at the library should come to this informational meeting to:

  • learn about volunteer tasks and projects
  • share ideas about new and existing library projects that require input from teens
  • sign up for community service hours!

We will meet at the picnic tables outside on the back lawn, unless the weather is bad, in which case we will meet at the YA desk.
