Author Talk: Julie Morgenlender, author of The Things We Don't Say

Join author Julie Morgenlender for a discussion of her book The Things We Don’t Say: an anthology of chronic illness truths. The talk will take place on Zoom on Tuesday, May 18 at 7pm.

Chronically ill people don’t always talk about it. Until now. Spanning different ages, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, and diagnoses, forty-two authors from around the world open up in fifty true stories about their chronic illnesses and their search for answers, poor treatment by doctors, strained relationships with loved ones, self-doubt, and more. They share the warmth of support from family and friends, the triumph of learning coping mechanisms, and finding ways to live their dreams. These stories are honest, raw, and real, and if you have chronic illness, you will find comfort and companionship in these pages. For everyone else, if you have ever wanted to know more about your loved one’s experience with chronic illness but didn’t want to ask the wrong questions, this book will have some answers and lead you to a new-found understanding.

Julie Morgenlender is a friend, daughter, aunt, crocheter, reader, creator of this anthology, and so much more, despite being unable to work full time. She enjoys walking in the sunshine, petting dogs, and spending time with awesome people. She volunteers for her chronic pain support group and is on the board of directors of the Bisexual Resource Center.

Jacob Reads - 101 Picture Book Program

Every Monday, 13 year-old Concordian, Jacob reads a special story from our staff-curated list of 101 Picture Books Concord Free Public Library Loves! Can't make the Facebook video premiere at 10? No problem! "Jacob Reads" storytimes will be archived in a playlist, linked above.

These readings will be posted on Facebook Premiere at 10am, and on Instagram.

The readings will also be available at: https://concordlibrary.org/kids/101-picture-books-cfpl-loves

101 Picture Books Concord Free Public Library Loves! is an early literacy program to build reading skills for newborns, infants, toddlers and preschoolers and to encourage parent and child bonding through reading.  All children ages birth to 5 years can participate in this year-round program.

The Library has curated a list of 100 critically acclaimed, recently published picture books, many of which focus on themes of inclusion, diversity and kindness. Children are encouraged to read all 100 books before kindergarten. The 101st book is up to the child’s choice! Every time a young reader reads 33 titles and finishes a coloring sheet, they win a book prize. When a reader completes 101 books, the Library celebrates their progress by entering them into a raffle and awarding them a very special surprise!
