One of the most significant actions during the American Revolution occurred in Westchester County. General Benedict Arnold’s treasonous plot to give West Point to the British got thwarted by three farmer-soldiers in central Westchester. Had Arnold’s co-conspirator, British Major John André, gotten through to New York City, America may have lost its Revolutionary cause. Performing in period dress, Master Storyteller Jonathan Kruk engages audiences in this most compelling story of the fight for Independence. Free tickets will be available at the Reference Desk beginning Monday, January 23rd.
This program is made possible through Revolutionary Westchester 250, Westchester County, and the Westchester Library System. It is designed to build awareness and appreciation for the Revolutionary War era in Westchester, in anticipation of the nation’s 250th anniversary of the American Revolution in 2026.

Mardi Gras refers to events of the Carnival celebration, (the Epiphany/Three Kings Day through Shrove Tuesday). Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday", reflecting the practice of the last night of eating rich, fatty foods before the ritual of sacrifice and fasting during Lenten season. Most people think of the City of New Orleans when it comes to the origin and celebration of Mardi Gras. The North American celebration began in 1699 but Mobile, Alabama is where the fun really started, moving to Biloxi and finally landing in New Orleans. Join us for this informative lecture on the history of Mardi Gras from it's inception through the celebrations held today!

Stand Out For College is offering this Zoom presentation to help families understand how the lingering effects from the pandemic have changed the college admissions landscape and how it affects Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen.
The recent college admissions cycle was the most competitive to date. With most colleges continuing their test-optional policies as well as increasing their virtual outreach to high school students, many schools had record numbers of applicants. Record high numbers of applications result in record low acceptance rates which is what most popular colleges and universities experienced this past admissions cycle. We will discuss current college admissions trends, the importance of researching and visiting colleges to find schools that can be a good fit for your child, a timeline and other action steps that can be taken to make this second half of the school year productive and help reduce the stress around the college admissions process. We’ll examine the holistic admissions review process, what admissions officers consider important when they review applicants, and how students can position themselves to develop a compelling narrative to increase their chances for admission. We will also discuss the importance of community service, how it can provide an opportunity for personal growth and a way to showcase a student’s character. Admissions officers place great emphasis on a student’s character and how the student has been able to give back and help others. This program is recommended for parents and their high school teens.
The presentation will be led by Ron Feuchs and Jackie Tepper, partners at Stand Out For College, LLC. (
