EPL Mystery Club

Our examination of "locked room" mysteries continues with Mystery of the Yellow Room by Gaston Leroux.  First published in 1907, this intriguing and baffling tale is a classic of early 20th-century detective fiction. At the heart of the novel is a perplexing mystery: How could a crime take place in a locked room which shows no sign of being entered? Nearly a century after its initial publication, Leroux's landmark tale of foul play, deception, and unbridled ambition remains a blueprint for the detective novel genre. Called "The finest locked room tale ever written" by none other than John Dickson Carr. Print copies are available at the circulation desk.  This book is also available as an e-book and an e-audiobook on Hoopla.

There are 9 spaces available.

Early Readers Book Club: Brains! Not just a Zombie Snack

A bookclub for kids who are just starting to read by themselves! (Generally grades K-2, but kids should be able to sit through a longer story)

Join us for a readaloud of Brains! Not Just a Zombie Snack by Stacy McAnulty, followed by a related activity! Kids can choose to listen to the story or read outloud to the group. Copies of the book will be provided at the event; you do not need to read the book beforehand. Geared towards ages 5- 7. Registration Required.

"Brains. 78% water, 100% delicious. A zombie chef who has sworn off eating brains salivates over this super powerful organ in this funny and fact-filled picture book. From learning about how the brain processes messages from our five senses, to learning why wrinkly human brains are so much more powerful than smooth mouse brains, this is a hilarious introduction to the organ that does it all. Rich with kid-friendly facts and beautifully brought to life by Matthew Rivera, this is a charming and irresistible picture book."
