Cultural Diversity through Music

In this dynamic music program, we will introduce and experience music from various cultures such as Latin/Spanish, Native American, South African, Jazz/Blues, and Asian Cultural Music. We will explore musical genres by singing, moving, and playing instruments as well as teaching traditional games, songs, and books from specific cultural traditions. When children listen, dance, and sing to music from diverse cultures, they also gain knowledge about diversity, tolerance, and cultural understanding, and learn valuable lessons, while enjoying fun, multicultural music!

This program will be held at The Apple Place, located at 540 Somers Rd., East Longmeadow, MA 01028

My First Words

My First Words is a four-class program presented by speech pathologist Samantha Bernier of Pathways for Parents CFCE which focuses on early communication and how to support infant speech and language development. For children from birth to twelve months with their caregiver. Registration is required.

This program will be held at The Apple Place, located at 540 Somers Rd., East Longmeadow, MA 01028 

This program is co-hosted by East Longmeadow Public Library and Storrs Library & sponsored by Pathways for Parents. Pathways for Parents is administered by Ludlow Public Schools and is funded by the Coordinated Family Community Engagement Grant through the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care.

Families in Harmony

Families in Harmony is a music-based, mindfulness program, that assists children and their caregivers in becoming more aware of the present moment by focusing on their physical and emotional well-being and connection to the world around them. 

We teach simple techniques with the use of singing, instrument play, breath work, books, and basic yoga poses, to integrate a mind-body experience fostering the healthy identification and expression of emotions.  We will identify take-home strategies serving as a foundation to cope with stress and mental health in a family’s evolving life.

Bringing E Home with Author Stephen Platzer

Learn about Ernestina-Morrissey, the Official Vessel of the Commonwealth of MA and a historic landmark, which is currently in the fleet of the Mass Maritime Academy. Hear from local author of Bringing E. Home: Transatlantic Voyage of Schooner Ernestina 1982, Stephen Platzer, who was part of the crew that sailed the schooner from Cape Verde off the coast of Africa to Newport, RI 40 years ago.

The library is proud to host this seminar that will teach the skills of CPR as well as provide information on how to live your most heart healthy life. In just two hours you'll learn how to save a life AND how to keep your heart functioning at its best!

Registration will be capped at 20 participants. 

All participants will receive a gift card to My Main Squeeze in East Longmeadow.

"On July 24th, 2021, I went into full cardiac arrest from a massive heart attack. I am 43 years old and prior to this moment had no evidence of heart issues.
