The Waters Between Us: A Boy, a Father, Outdoor Misadventures and the Healing Power of Nature
Untamed. Unsupervised. Uncontrolled. Boyhood in the 1960s and ‘70s was a time for exploration and mischief. Author Michael Tougias found more than his share of misadventures in the woods and on the water: some life-threatening but others innocently hilarious.
Over time – and after reading a multitude of adventure books -- these experiences took shape in his quest to be a mountain man, owning a cabin in the forest and living off the land. Part of that dream would come true, but only after a family tragedy that shook his world and forced changes in his life.
This is also a story of a complex and strained relationship between father and son, the efforts at understanding, and ultimately respect and devotion. In The Waters Between Us Tougias channels Bryson’s “A Walk in the Woods” to mix laugh out loud humor with insight into the natural world through the eyes of a curious boy.
Come and enjoy this unique multi-media presentation set during a time before the distraction of cell phones and the internet. Seminal events from the period, such as the Vietnam War, The Beatles, and Moon Landing are woven in. The author uses the same storytelling skills that landed him on the NY Times bestseller list to engage the audience.
Tougias is a New York Times Bestselling author and co-author of 31 books for adults, and 6 for young adults and children. Among his bestsellers are There’s A Porcupine In My Outhouse (Winner of the Independent Publishers “Best Nature Book of the Year”), Ten Hours Until Dawn and The Finest Hours (now a Disney movie).
Please register for this event and a Zoom link will be emailed to you.

Whether you garden in sun or shade, there are many lovely spring perennials that will add colorful flowers and interesting foliage to the early spring garden. Learn about favorites and how to combine them for best effect in the garden.
Presented by Joan Butler. Joan Butler has been an enthusiastic gardener and plant collector for over 35 years, and believes gardens should invite you to linger in the world outside your door. Joan has a deep and fundamental interest in the natural world. She holds a BA in Geology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and a Certificate in Landscape Management from UMass Extension Green School. She is a Master Gardener, a horticulturist at Weston Nurseries, and is a past Chairman of the Massachusetts Landscape Design Council.
