A Teen Author Talk with Paige Classey

The Edith Wheeler Memorial Library is proud to welcome Monroe native Paige Classey for a unique Teen Author Talk. Classey, a Masuk High School alumna from the class of 2006, recently published her debut young adult novel, "Everything You Left Me." The book tells the story of 18-year-old Maybeth, who is confronted by the police regarding her father's potential connection to a series of unsolved murders. As an author, Classey hopes to connect with young readers through her writing and empower them with a sense of recognition, validation, and dignity.

This hybrid program will be held in-person at the EWML meeting room and broadcast via Zoom

Join us for a library-wide Summer Reading Kickoff Luau!  Bring your own dinner and picnic on our back lawn while being serenaded by the sounds of Hawaii with the Edukated Fleas trio!  Dance the night away, then enjoy dessert provided by the 

Friends of the Library.  There is no registration for this program - bring the whole family!

Giveaways, decorations, dessert, and music all provided by the Friends of the Library!

Author Talk with Tananarive Due: Black Panther: Tales of Wakanda Contributing Author

Please join us for a chat with Tananarive Due about her newest work, The Wishing Pool and Other Stories. The second collection of stories by the author is full of her signature offerings of horror, science fiction, and suspense while confronting monsters of all kinds, including racism, the monster within, and the supernatural. Due’s prolific body of work cements the author as a leading voice in black speculative fiction for more than 20 years. Due is an award-winning writer, educator, and producer. Her body of work includes sixteen books, including the Blood ColonyThe Living BloodThe Good HouseJoplin’s GhostDevil’s Wake, and the forthcoming The Reformatory. In addition, she is a contributing author of Black Panther: Tales of Wakanda and Black Panther: Sins of the King. Collaborating with her partner Steven Barnes, she also co-wrote "A Small Town" for Season 2 of Jordan Peele’s "The Twilight Zone" on Paramount Plus and two segments of Shudder’s anthology film Horror Noire.

Planting Seeds of Intention Crystal Terrarium Workshop

This class gives a fun overview of the benefits of crystals.
A display case of various crystal samples will be set up so
that patrons can freely explore. We will learn how to best
incorporate each crystal into our homes and living spaces
as well. A fun cry stal quiz follows and then we ‘ll assemble
our t errarium using small plants, soil, small assorted
crystal chips and sands. Most importantly, we will plant our
“seed s of intention” into the soil! Calming music and tea
will set our mood. A great introspect ive experience for all.
