Candle Making Workshop (Ages 13 to Adult)
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

You’ll be surprised at how much you don’t know about candles! We'll discuss types of candles, which waxes are best suited for which type of candle, wick and heat resistant container sizes, the difference between essential oils and fragrance oils, and how to burn a candle. Each participant will make one container candle using soy wax and can choose from a variety of seasonally inspired fragrance oils. Once the wax has cooled undisturbed for approximately 24 hours, participants will take their candle home and may burn it after a 2 week curing period.

The wax is hot and fragrance oils can be strongly scented. Registering a child under 18 years old for this event indicates that the parent/guardian acknowledges the possibility of injury to the child attending the workshop. Program starts promptly, no admission is allowed after instructions are given.

Snow date: Tuesday, December 6th at 6:00 pm

Sponsored by the Hanson Public Library Foundation.

Textile Painting: Bouncing Ball on Cotton (Ages 5-12)
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

This is a fascinating project perfect for young children! Draw on cotton fabric, add an alcohol/vinegar blend, and watch the magic happen! During this workshop we'll experiment with designing and blending permanent markers with rubbing alcohol and vinegar, creating a watercolor effect. Each participant will use a variety of permanent markers and recycled objects to make their own colorful creation and, while still wet, the work may be taken home at the end of the workshop. The material has to dry overnight and it will need to be ironed or placed in a hot dryer for the colors to completely set. The fabric is 100% cotton and measures 15” x 15”.

A caregiver must be hands-on and actively involved with each child under the age of 10 to help with the project. We will be using waterproof permanent markers so bring an old shirt to protect your clothing.

Snow date: Friday, December 30th at 1:00 pm
