“A Journey Through the Roots of American Popular Music,” is a program of songs and stories about the origins of the blues, rock and country music presented by singer and songwriter Jon Waterman. The program, which also features an accompanying slideshow, explores some of the fascinating characters and events that are part of the history and the role of music in our lives.
Musician and songwriter Jon Waterman has been performing his original songs along with blues, rock and country standards throughout his life. His music is influenced by intriguing characters and stories from history, the roots of the music he loves, and the diversity of the human experience. His song “Sultana” which tells the story of the Civil War steamboat disaster was selected to be featured at the Sultana museum in Marion, AR. Waterman has presented his programs "A Journey Through the Roots of American Popular Music" and “Cro-Magnon Blues: History and Legends Through Song” in venues around the country, both in person and virtually. He has an M.A. in Popular Music History from Prescott College, an M.A. in Psychology from Kaplan University, and a B.A. in History from Northern Arizona University.
This program is supported in part by a grant from the Haverhill Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

A two hour event, geared towards adults interested in gardening, wildlife and environmental conservation.
The event will begin with a 20 minute slide talk about ecologically beneficial gardening practices, and the importance of native plants. A 10 minute art demonstration will follow with tips and guidance on how to paint flowers. Images of native plant flowers will be available for reference.
Attendees will use acrylic paint, with brush and marker to paint native flowers onto provided butterfly signs and their plant pot. They will select 1-2 species of native plant seeds, collected by community members, to plant in 1-2 pots and take these home to add to their own gardens. Information on best growing conditions for the plants will be shared to encourage people to select the right plant for the right site. Plant species include native milkweed, coneflowers, bee balm, goldenrod and asters.
Resources will be shared for participants to learn more about native plant gardening.
