On October 14th, an annular eclipse will cross the western US from Oregon to Texas. We will be able to view a partial eclipse here in Massachusetts. Join us October 5th (with your box!) to make it into an eclipse viewer! It can be a shoe box, a cereal box, anything like that, but the longer the better! This will be a great practice run for the total eclipse occurring in April 2024.

Spooky season has arrived at the library!
Join us for a fun night out creating a spooky Ghost Door Hanger! A great beginner "macrame" craft!
Registration is required and space is limited to 15 attendees. Open to ages 18+

Recycle a paperback book and make a unique pumpkin decoration for Halloween.
This is an easy recycling project that looks superb if you are decorating in a black and white theme; it’s also equally effective as a stand-alone feature or as part of a Halloween centerpiece or table display.
Registration is required and space is limited to 15 attendees. Open to ages 18+. Grab and Go kits will be available by request beginning Tuesday, October 10 for those unable to attend the program.

Holbrook Public Library is partnering with other Libraries throughout Massachusetts to host a series of Virtual Talks entitled : "Haunted Experiences" with Jeff DiPauli. Our first event is "Spooky World" with its creator, David Bertolino. He will be discussing the story behind the opening of Spooky World and its long storied history.
This event is on Zoom, but we will be offering an in- person viewing of the Zoom talk in the Library for anyone that prefers participating in that way.
Registration is required and is open to Teens and Adults. The Zoom link will be emailed to all who register for the event.

During September 30 through October 7 (Banned Books Week) libraries across the Commonwealth will celebrate the freedom to read with a Statewide Read-In. Everyone is welcome to come together on the library lawn (or another designated area) and read anything they want.
Join us October 7th on the library lawn (or inside, if the weather isn't cooperating) to enjoy our favorite reads together!

Holbrook Public Library is having the First Annual Book Character Pumpkins Decorating Contest!
Open to all ages, Faux pumpkins will be available for pick up at the library on October 11. Bring the pumpkin home, decorate it as your favorite Book Character or Library related Theme and return to the Library by October 24 at 7:00pm. Pumpkins will be on display on the Library so patrons can vote for their favorite character. Winners will be announced on October 31st. The three winners will receive a Goody Bag filled with fun surprises. All participants will be able to pick a small prize from our Treasure Chest as well!
There will be only 50 Pumpkins available so be sure to pick up your pumpkin before they run out!

Our second event is "The Barrett's Haunted Mansion with owner Mary Costello". Mary and Jeff will discuss the creation of Barrett's Haunted Mansion and the story behind its expansion and continued successful as a South Shore Halloween Iconic Event.
This is a virtual talk on Zoom, but we will be offering an live in-person screening of the program for those who prefer participating in that way.
Registration is required and is open to Teens and Adults. The zoom link will be emailed to all of those who register.



Tween Craft Club: Mini Pumpkin Painting!
Kids ages 8-12 are invited to get crafty! Come hang out with us and use your creative skills as we do a new craft project each month. All materials and supplies will be provided.
This month, get into the Halloween spirit with us as we paint mini pumpkins! You can paint your pumpkin however you'd like. If you're stumped (ha!), we will have some ideas for you!

Check Em' Out: Tween/Teen Book Club
*This month, we are meeting on the third Tuesday of the month due to Halloween.
This month's book pick is: The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
Check Em' Out brings tweens and teens together to read novels based on a monthly theme, to encourage literacy outside of the classroom, and to enjoy different activities that engage creative skills.
For ages 12-18
- Please read the following terms before registering!:
We will meet to discuss each book on the last Tuesday of each month from 4:00PM to 5:00PM
100% completion of the book is NOT required to join our monthly meetings (do your best!)
Participants should be willing to get into groups of different ages and genders for activities.
Readers and parents shall understand that some Book Club titles may explore literary themes related to gender, sexuality, religion, politics, violence, and other topics that may be sensitive for younger readers. Please contact the Library for further details about each month’s selection.
By registering for this program, you have agreed to the participation terms listed above and you agree to pick up your copy of this month’s book, while supplies last.

Holbrook residents will have an opportunity for advanced registration beginning on October 1- October 7. General registration will open on October 8.

Watching families build together is always a heartwarming sight. Our Workshop event is perfect for parents and children to come together and collaborate creatively. You'll be amazed at how the generational gaps dissolve once the building begin.
Participants are led through waves of high energy building activities using materials like Lego®, PlusPlus®, Kapla®, and more. The entire experience is hands-on from start to finish. Buildwave features a captivating audiovisual component that sets it apart from every other enrichment program, making it feel more like a video game rather than just another enrichment activity. After completing wave after wave of creative building exercises, each participant walks away from Buildwave with a renewed sense of creative confidence.
Families will be given waves of high energy kit-based building challenges. This is a hands-on, high energy program that will emphasize teamwork, creativity, and confidence building!
For kids ages 6 and older and their families. Space is limited to 20 children, with their Adult Caregivers not included in the limit, and Registration is required.

Want to bring some light into 2023? Come make some lotus lanterns with us! A member of the Korean Spirit and Culture Promotion Project (“KSCPP”) will show us step by step how to make a traditional Korean lotus lantern via Zoom followed by the showing of a documentary film.
This is a limited space program and each attendee must register separately. All who register are expected to join us either virtually or in-person on Saturday, November 11 at 12pm . PLEASE NOTE, THIS EVENT IS FOR TEENS AND ADULTS.
An email will be sent within a week of the event for materials pick up. This event could be virtual using Zoom or hybrid. That information will be shared in the kit availability email.
