Tuesday Book Discussion
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Join us as we discuss The Worst Hard Time: the Untold Story of Those Who Survived the Great American Dust Bowl by Timothy Egan.

Winner of the National Book Award for Nonfiction, the book describes the man-made ecological disaster that hit the high plains during the 1930s, colliding with that other man-made disaster, the Great Depression. Egan writes about the larger social and political issues of the time, along with the poignant, heartbreaking efforts of individual farmers and their families to survive and keep their land.

This group will be meeting via Zoom. If you are interested in joining the group, please email the library at mail@killingworthlibrary.org.

Extra copies are available at the circulation desk.

Scavenger Hunt

Get ready for a Scavenger Hunt!

The challenge: Visit 10 locations in town and look for the 8 ½ X 11 inch “Killingworth Library Scavenger Hunt”  sign.  Each location’s sign will show a different photo of a book cover.

Write down the book title at that location, and when you have collected all 10, just send an email to mail@killingworthlibrary.org listing the 10 titles (or drop off the list in our drop box) and you will be entered in our contest to win prizes!

The list of participating locations will be published on the library’s website and Facebook on March 17.  Deadline for submitting the list of book titles is midnight March 31.  Winners will be contacted on April 2.

Mystery Book Club
6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Join us as we discuss Plum Island by Nelson DeMille.

Wounded in the line of duty, NYPD homicide detective John Corey convalesces in the Long Island township of Southold, home to farmers, fishermen -- and at least one killer. Tom and Judy Gordon, a young, attractive couple Corey knows, have been found on their patio, each with a bullet in the head. The local police chief, Sylvester Maxwell, wants Corey's big-city expertise, but Maxwell gets more than he bargained for.

John Corey doesn't like mysteries, which is why he likes to solve them. His investigations lead him into the lore, legends, and ancient secrets of northern Long Island -- more deadly and more dangerous than he could ever have imagined. During his journey of discovery, he meets two remarkable women, Detective Beth Penrose and Mayflower descendant Emma Whitestone, both of whom change his life irrevocably. Ultimately, through his understanding of the murders, John Corey comes to understand himself.

Fast-paced and atmospheric, marked by entrancing characters, incandescent storytelling, and brilliant comic touches, Plum Island is Nelson DeMille at his thrill-inducing best.

This group will be meeting via Zoom. If you are interested in joining the group, please email the library at mail@killingworthlibrary.org. Extra copies will be available at the library.
