We have plenty of stickers in the Teen Room to use, but participants are welcome to bring their own from home.

An Examination and Celebration of Family History - Author talk with Janis Daly

Join us as Massachusetts author Janis Daly discusses how secrets of our past can surprise, delight, educate, and inspire the writing of a novel. Daly will discuss her debut book, "The Unlocked Path," how she came to write the book, and her research.

In 1897 Philadelphia, Eliza Pearson enters a woman's medical college against her mother's wishes. With the support of a circle of women, driven by determination to conquer the challenging curriculum, battle sexism, and overcome doubts, Pearson charts her new life path. After she becomes an intern, Pearson continues her work with poverty-stricken patients as she defines her version of suffrage work to champion women's rights for and beyond the right to vote. Love is found, love is lost. When global events devolve into chaos with the 1918 influenza pandemic, and a world war, Pearson renews her vow to help and heal.

Following a career in sales and marketing, Daly began her writing journey after she discovered her great-great grandfather, William S. Pierce helped found the Women's Medical College in Philadelphia. Inspired by her research, Daly discovered more stories of the early graduates that she believed needed to be told. Using her experience at Wheaton College (in Norton, Mass), a creative writing class at Wesleyan University, and extensive research, she submitted the manuscript for her first book. Daly splits her time between Cape Cod, New Hampshire, Florida and hotels along Route 95, with her husband and rescue pup. Her sequel to "The Unlocked Path" will be released in early September of 2024.

Books will be available for purchase following the event.
