Adult Book Club

The Adult Book Club is for anyone 18 and older who loves to read and wants to discuss great books with other members of the community. Meetings are on the 3rd Tuesdays at 6pm. This meeting you will have the option of attending virtually or in person outside at the gazebo. Please register for the book club and indicate whether you would like to attend Virtually or In Person.

Click here to see the 2022 Book List.  You can pick up a copy of this month's book at the circulation desk.

In order to promote an open and friendly environment, we ask that members please:

  • Speak up when you have something you want to contribute to the conversation. Do not feel pressured to speak if you are content to listen to others.
  • Listen thoughtfully to others when they are speaking so that you can respond or carry on the conversation from where the last person left off.
  • Respect others’ opinions, especially when they differ from your own.
  • Be brief when talking to help insure that everyone has the opportunity to speak.
  • Do not talk over one another or have side conversations that disrupt the main discussion.
  • Keep personal political and religious viewpoints out of the discussion unless they relate to the book being discussed.
  • Do not feel pressure to finish the book. Your interest in the topic alone is enough to contribute to the conversation and you can still learn and have fun listening to others discuss the book.

It is the mission of the Marlborough Public Library Adult Book Club to provide an open and friendly environment within which all members of the community are welcome to discuss books they have read; also to expand members’ personal literary experiences by introducing them to books that they might otherwise not have selected. Monthly books, either fiction or nonfiction, are chosen by the book club members on a yearly basis in the fall and are provided in various formats (e.g. large print and audio) to ensure that all members of the community who wish to participate are able to do so.

Please register for the book club and indicate whether you would like to attend Virtually or In Person.

Walking Meditation

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.” – Henry David Thoreau

When you connect with the more-than human world, you remember your true nature of being happy and free. When you're in nature with a Kripalu-certified Mindful Outdoor Guide, you'll learn to attune to the grounding earth energies beneath your feet, sense an unlimited spaciousness within as you practice sky gazing, feel a profound connection with the earth as you breathe with the trees, and see and hear the world from a new perspective as you practice your deer ears and owl vision!

We will practice walking meditation together on the Assabet River Rail Trail.  Please register for this in-person program.

Lisa Campbell, a graduate of the Kripalu School of Mindful Outdoor Leadership, is a meditation and mindfulness coach and a Kripalu certified Holistic Health Teacher, grew happy and free with her beloved grandparents camping and fishing in upper Michigan and Canada. Feeling stressed by a global pandemic, she returned to nature and experienced a deep transformation through the techniques she shares in her mindful outdoor experiences. Lisa offers meditation and mindfulness classes and workshops at Synergy Wellness Center in Hudson.

Live Music - Frozen Corn

Join us for some live music in the gazebo outside the Walker Building!

Frozen Corn is the Western Mass trio of Anthony Pasquarosa, Chris Carlton, and Joshua Burkett. Each of them has a sterling musical reputation, and more recordings than you can easily name, but Frozen Corn is a special kind of project. Together, the three of them perform covers of proto-bluegrass tunes, most first recorded in Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia in the late 1920s. It's related to bluegrass and old timey music, but it comes from an alternate universe. A universe in which the transportational qualities of Frozen Corn's sound cannot be overstated.

No need to register -- just come and listen with us!

Adult Book Club

The Adult Book Club is for anyone 18 and older who loves to read and wants to discuss great books with other members of the community. Meetings are on the 3rd Tuesdays at 6pmThis meeting you will have the option of attending virtually or in person in the conference room.
