Adult Book Discussion

Join us to discuss Lessons in Chemistry  by Bonnie Garmus. "Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it's the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel-prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with--of all things--her mind. True chemistry results."

Pick from a variety of recycled materials (cardboard, fabric, plastic, paper, etc.) to complete the challenge of the week. Keep track of your projects in your own logbook, and move your pin up our "Extraordinary Upcyclers" board as you complete more challenges. Materials will be provided, but feel free to bring your own if you’ve got something specific in mind. You can also complete the challenge from home and email a picture of your creation to be added to your log book. For all ages, with an adult to supervise. This week’s challenge is to make a groundhog for Groundhog Day. Sponsored by the Friends of the Lawrence Branch.

This is a drop-in program. There's no need to register, and you can stop by any time from 1-5 to participate.

In honor of the February Valentine’s Day holiday, David Burchell will present a brief history of the wide variety of century old postcards in his collection with a special focus on the topic of Valentine’s Day.
