Named for the "rule of three" principle in writing and joke-telling, this reading group considers three pieces each month: a short story, a poem, and an essay, all connected by a theme. Join us to be introduced to new authors, new forms, and new ideas. We discuss literature in the spirit of curiosity and wonderment. This month's theme is "Art Writing." H. Auden. Sign up with your email to receive the readings digitally. You can also call the West Windsor reference desk to arrange picking up printed copies.

Non-Fiction Book Group: Driving While Black

To observe MLK Day, we will discuss Driving While Black by Gretchen Sorin, which recovers the forgotten history of black motorists, and their creation of a parallel, unseen world of travel guides, black only hotels, and informal communications networks that kept black drivers safe. Focusing on the Green Book travel guide, begun in 1936, Sorin demonstrates how travel was central to the Civil Rights movement. Feel free to attend even if you have not read or finished the book.

Registration required prior to the event.

Adult Book Discussion

Join us to discuss Lessons in Chemistry  by Bonnie Garmus. "Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it's the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel-prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with--of all things--her mind. True chemistry results."

Registration required prior to the event.
