The True Story Behind the Lincoln Assassination with Justice Dennis Curran
6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Join Retired Massachusetts Superior Court Justice Dennis J. Curran for  "The True Story Behind the Lincoln Assassination: The Nest That Hatched Evil" a lecture from his series “Great Trials That Changed History: A Judge’s Perspective”

Many of the commonly-held myths about the murder of our 16 th President are utterly false. Although assassin John Wilkes Booth fired the gun that killed the President, there were many fingers on that trigger.
The Confederate Secret Service, a foreign bank account, multiple assassins and an orchestrated underground plot conspired to decapitate the Union government, a plan set in motion many months before the evening of April 14, 1865.
The trials of the assassin-conspirators are both riveting and revelatory, and shed light on the use of military tribunals versus civilian trials, a debate that continues today, for example, in the Guantanamo prisoner controversy.
This event occurred 159 years ago next month.

5:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Join us to discuss Finding Freedom by Erin French!

Long before The Lost Kitchen became a world dining destination with every seating filled the day the reservation book opens each spring, Erin French was a girl roaming barefoot on a 25-acre farm, a teenager falling in love with food while working the line at her dad's diner and a young woman finding her calling as a professional chef at her tiny restaurant tucked into a 19th century mill. This singular memoir--a classic American story--invites readers to Erin's corner of her beloved Maine to share the real person behind the "girl from Freedom" fairytale, and the not-so-picture-perfect struggles that have taken every ounce of her strength to overcome, and that make Erin's life triumphant.

In Finding Freedom, Erin opens up to the challenges, stumbles, and victories that have led her to the exact place she was ever meant to be, telling stories of multiple rock-bottoms, of darkness and anxiety, of survival as a jobless single mother, of pills that promised release but delivered addiction, of a man who seemed to offer salvation but in the end ripped away her very sense of self. And of the beautiful son who was her guiding light as she slowly rebuilt her personal and culinary life around the solace she found in food--as a source of comfort, a sense of place, as a way of bringing goodness into the world. Erin's experiences with deep loss and abiding hope, told with both honesty and humor, will resonate with women everywhere who are determined to find their voices, create community, grow stronger and discover their best-selves despite seemingly impossible odds. Set against the backdrop of rural Maine and its lushly intense, bountiful seasons, Erin reveals the passion and courage needed to invent oneself anew, and the poignant, timeless connections between food and generosity, renewal and freedom.

6:45 PM - 8:15 PM

Join Bri on Zoom for a series of four live classes, each covering a different hand appliqué technique inspired by contemporary and traditional sewing artists. Additionally, in each class we'll learn a few embroidery stitches!

All sewing levels are welcome, including total beginners. This class is for adults, but older, mature teens are also invited to join us.

Classes will be held on the first Wednesday of the month from January to April (Jan 3rd, Feb 7th, Mar 6th, and Apr 3rd) from 6:45-8:15 p.m. We will start with the easiest technique and build up to the most complex, so while you are not required to attend all classes, it is recommended if you are new to sewing.

Free supply kits are available to those who register by December 15th. Email Bri at bozanne@minlib.net to register.

6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

"The Expiration Date," is local storyteller Judah Leblang's poignant and humorous one-man show about dealing with life's big questions--How does one handle life as a "junior-senior?" Does getting older mean becoming wiser?"--and navigating those times when one man planned, and God laughed.

Judah Leblang is a Boston-area writer, teacher and storyteller. His essays and commentaries have been broadcast on 200 NPR and ABC-radio network stations around the US, and his memoir vignettes and essays have been published in McSweeney’s onlineWBUR’s Cognoscenti, Medium, and in regional publications in Boston and his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. Join Miss Andrea for this lap-sit session especially for babies ages 0-18 months with caregivers. We'll share songs, fingerplays & stories that are just right for pre-walkers. This is a great opportunity for caregivers to model singing, playing & sharing the early literacy experience with their babies!

*We kindly request that attendees choose either Thursday or Friday to ensure there is enough space for everyone.  In addition, please choose either Pattycake Babies or Rhyme Time. We appreciate your help with this!

No Registration Required; Best for ages 0-18 months with a caregiver.
