Problem Solving While We Sleep: A Live Zoom Program
Presented by Dream Analyst Layne Dalfen
Whether you remember them or you don’t, your dreams provide solutions to the specific situation that’s been bugging you this week! In fact, a dream is an interior conversation that takes place between your conscious and your unconscious mind. Dream Analyst Layne Dalfen will be teaching the 6-Point-of-Entry method she developed, which will propel our ability to solve the problems we face with the help of our dreams.
Layne will illustrate how our dreams open the door to both short and long term change. While she focuses on uncovering the surface situations that “trigger” a dream, she will also teach participants how to look deeper into our responses to life’s situations. Q&A will follow the presentation, and participants may be invited to share their own dreams if time permits.
Check out Layne's book about decoding dreams in our e-book collection here on Libby.
About the Presenter: Layne Dalfen founded the Dream Interpretation Center in 1997. She has been teaching dream analysis to counseling students at Concordia University in Montreal since 2005. She studied at the Gestalt Counselling and Training Center in Montreal, and Adlerian Principles of Dream Analysis at the Alfred Adler Institute. She has been a member of the International Association for the Study of Dreams (IASD) since 1997. Dalfen teaches a six points of entry system she developed that anyone can use to uncover meaning in their dreams. During her lectures, radio and television appearances, as well as her published articles, Dalfen's goal is to introduce the general public to the value of understanding their dreams, with a view towards long-term change.
She writes the Understanding Dreams column at Psychology Today and is known at OprahDaily as The Dream Catcher.

Life in the Last Frontier: Alaska - Live Zoom Program
Presented by Writers Patrice and Justin La Vigne
Ever wonder what it would be like to live in a tiny cabin in remote Alaska? To live without many modern amenities, which means going to the outhouse in -30F° weather, to have to travel 2 hours to go to the hospital, doctor, dentist, and any big store? There are tradeoffs to these sacrifices, such as experiencing the Northern Lights and enjoying 20 hours of daylight, which means you can go for a hike at 10:00 pm! This “Life in the Last Frontier” presentation will answer all your burning questions about surviving the winter darkness, layering for extreme temperatures, living with Alaskan wildlife, outhouse etiquette, and other everyday adventures in the far North. You will feel part of this unique life after getting an insider's glimpse into why people settle—and stay—in remote Alaska!

Collectively, they have hiked more than 12,000 miles and are close to visiting all of the U.S. National Parks as well as climbing all the state high points. They currently reside in a dry cabin outside of Denali National Park in Alaska. The former New Jersey residents have lived in 14 states and worked on the road as nomads around the “lower 48” for 10 years before ultimately deciding Alaska was their forever home.

Little Ray, as she is called, finishes nowhere near the podium, but she manages to get pregnant. Back home, in New England, Little Ray becomes a ski instructor. Her son, Adam, grows up in a family that defies conventions and evades questions concerning the eventful past. Years later, looking for answers, Adam will go to Aspen. In the Hotel Jerome, where he was conceived, Adam will meet some ghosts; they aren’t the first or the last ghosts he sees.

Hollywood, Home, Heart, and Healing: A Conversation with Actor John Stamos
Join us for an intimate conversation with Full House star, John Stamos, as he leads us through his incredibly moving and vulnerable memoir, If You Would Have Told Me.
If you would have told a young John Stamos flipping burgers at his dad’s fast-food joint that one day he’d be a household name and that, at the height of his success, he’d be living alone, divorced, with no kids, high on a cocktail of forgetting, he might’ve asked, “You want fries with that?”
A universal story about friendship, love, loss, and the courage to embrace love once more, John Stamos’s memoir is filled with some of the most memorable names in Hollywood, both old and new. Funny, deeply poignant, and brutally honest, If You Would Have Told Me is a portrait of a boy who went from believing in Disney magic to a man who learns that we have to create our own magical moments in life.

Stimulation of brain waves brings focus to stress relief. You may find that using singing bowls will help calm thoughts, relieve tension, and help you become more conscious of your breathing. This consciousness may promote a sense of inner calm and relaxation.
Steven Russell is a certified Yoga Teacher and professional musician. Please enjoy the accompanying Personal Wellness videos in this series, which will be available to watch on the Monmouth County Library’s YouTube Channel.

Tune in to celebrate Native American Heritage Month as the 23rd United States Poet Laureate and winner of the 2022 Academy of American Poets Leadership Award, Joy Harjo, joins us for a chat about her most recent memoir, Catching the Light and to discuss her rewarding lifetime as a writer and poet.
In Catching the Light, Harjo examines the power of words and how poetry summons us toward justice and healing.
In this lyrical meditation about the why of writing poetry, Harjo reflects on significant points of illumination, experience, and questioning from her fifty years as a poet. Comprised of intimate vignettes that take us through the author’s life journey as a youth in the late 1960s, a single mother, and a champion of Native nations, this book offers a fresh understanding of how poetry functions as an expression of purpose, spirit, community, and memory.
Harjo insists the most meaningful poetry is birthed through cracks in history from what is broken and unseen. At the crossroads of this brokenness, she calls us to watch and listen for the songs of justice for all those America has denied. This is an homage to the power of words to defy erasure—to inscribe the story, again and again, of who we have been, who we are, and who we can be.
