This Month's Title Is: Britt-Marie Was Here by Fredrik Backman

Britt-Marie can’t stand mess. A disorganized cutlery drawer ranks high on her list of unforgivable sins. She is not one to judge others—no matter how ill-mannered, unkempt, or morally suspect they might be. It’s just that sometimes people interpret her helpful suggestions as criticisms, which is certainly not her intention. But hidden inside the socially awkward, fussy busybody is a woman who has more imagination, bigger dreams, and a warmer heart that anyone around her realizes. When Britt-Marie walks out on her cheating husband and has to fend for herself in the miserable backwater town of Borg—of which the kindest thing one can say is that it has a road going through it—she finds work as the caretaker of a soon-to-be demolished recreation center. The fastidious Britt-Marie soon finds herself being drawn into the daily doings of her fellow citizens, an odd assortment of miscreants, drunkards, layabouts. Most alarming of all, she’s given the impossible task of leading the supremely untalented children’s soccer team to victory. In this small town of misfits, can Britt-Marie find a place where she truly belongs?

Sunday Afternoon Book Club

Join us on the 4th Sunday of each month to discuss titles from a variety of genres!  This intergenerational group is designed for adults of all ages and teens grades 9-12.  We read a mix of fiction, nonfiction, and young adult literature and come together to talk about our ideas and opinions (and to snack!).  Teens can earn community service hours for attending the discussions.  If interested in joining, please call 412.269.0334 for more inforamtion.  We hope to see you at book club!

This Month's Selection Is: Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng

In Shaker Heights, a placid, progressive suburb of Cleveland, everything is planned – from the layout of the winding roads, to the colors of the houses, to the successful lives its residents will go on to lead. And no one embodies this spirit more than Elena Richardson, whose guiding principle is playing by the rules.Enter Mia Warren – an enigmatic artist and single mother – who arrives in this idyllic bubble with her teenaged daughter Pearl, and rents a house from the Richardsons. Soon Mia and Pearl become more than tenants: all four Richardson children are drawn to the mother-daughter pair. But Mia carries with her a mysterious past and a disregard for the status quo that threatens to upend this carefully ordered community. When old family friends of the Richardsons attempt to adopt a Chinese-American baby, a custody battle erupts that dramatically divides the town--and puts Mia and Elena on opposing sides.  Suspicious of Mia and her motives, Elena is determined to uncover the secrets in Mia's past. But her obsession will come at unexpected and devastating costs.

Love DIY crafts? Love delicious donuts? If you said "YES," we've got the program for you. Come and make a unique craft while munching on some tasty donuts and

sipping cold juice. After all, nothing beats the summer heat quite like a craft and mid-morning snack at the library!

Our craft this time will be photo tiles, so please bring a picture with you that you'd like to use for your craft.  PS: Instagram photos work great for this project because of their unique size!
