Adult Program - Community Service Poppy Project

The New Milford Public Library Knit & Stitch Group invites you to participate in a Community Service Project

The Garden Club of New Milford Community Poppy Project

The project will be undertaken by the Garden Club of New Milford with the assistance of the community, as part of our 100th Anniversary Celebration.  The poppy is a symbol of rememberance, of a great loss in war, as well as a symbol of hope for those left behind.  The display is being created to honor New Milford Veterans.  The Amercian Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) both endorse this project.

Poppies can be knit or crocheted with arcrylic yarn.  The pattern can be emailed to you, or picked up at the Library.  Make as many as you like, there is a 1000 poppy goal!  Collections spots will be -the Mayor's office, New Milford Public Library, the Senior Center, and the Jone Pettibone Community Center in the Parks & Rec office.  For further information please contact:  Kathy Barringer with the Garden Club - nmgardenclub@gmail.com, 203-770-9542 or Jody Hyman of New Milford Public Library - jhyman@biblio.org, 860-355-1191

You are cordially invited to an awareness event for National Donate Life Month.  We will learn about the facts of organ shortage here in CT, and hear about some of the advances in solid organ transplant.  A liver recipient will talk about thier experience.  A former living kidney donor will talk about her decision to give the gift of life.  This event will be moderated by Michael Joyce, LCSW from Yale-New Haven Tranplantation Center.  There will be a question and answer opportunity.
