Sign up to read to our newest, very special “reading” dog, Annie! Annie is trained to sit with your child and listen to them read.  This kind of support from lovable and friendly dogs can foster your child’s self-confidence, build reading skills, and it’s just plain fun!

For kids who are learning to read independently, or who are already doing so.

Gameplay Rules:

  • Beginners are not expected to know all the rules, but must be able to accurately interpret dice and their character sheet. If you know how to make your own sheet, please let the DM know so your level is consistent with the others.
  • Teamwork is key - players must work with the party in a non-disruptive way. This is a safe space for all, please respect players in and out of the game!
  • Any character abilities outside the core must be brought to the DMs attention. The DM has final say on how all effects work in the game.

Young Scientists with STEM Beginnings

Young Scientists are back! Join us for a 6-week STEM series facilitated by STEM Beginnings. Children ages 3-6, with a parent/caregiver, will learn STEM (Science,  Technology, Engineering & Math) concepts through hands-on activities, a story, and simple experiments. Medicare 101

Join Scott Maibor, CFE, of Senior Benefits Boston for Medicare 101. This presentation is designed to provide an overview of the Medicare system for those approaching Medicare, those currently on Medicare as well as those assisting loved ones with their Medicare questions. He will review costs, coverage, important dates, different coverage options within the system, how to avoid penalties, and other pitfalls and common mistakes. Importantly, he will include the numerous changes for the upcoming 2025 benefit year. Per Medicare rules, this is an educational presentation, and no plan specific information will be shared.

Meet Frances Perkins: The Unsung Heroine Behind the New Deal

She was the first female US Cabinet Secretary, a relentless advocate for exploited workers, and object of admiration and contempt from her male contemporaries. Massachusetts native Frances Perkins dedicated her career to providing exploited working men and women with safe, humane, fair working conditions. In this 2-part portrayal, audiences will walk through the personal and professional trials and triumphs of this heroic, principled politician. You'll discover her secrets to building alliances and staring down bullies to enact legislation to help make government a champion for working people and retirees.

This program is in collaboration with the Northborough Historical Society. Please note that this session will be held at the Historical Society, 52 Main St.

Choose Your Own Adventure Book Club

Join the adventure! A club best for adventurers between grades 3 - 5. Join Miss Meredith once a month on Wednesday to read a new Choose Your Own Adventure book out loud and choose which path to take together. After the story ends, club members will participate in a STEAM activity that relates to the book of the week.

Participants will receive a special badge for their CYOA passport after each meeting. Completed passports with all nine badges can be sent to the publisher and redeemed for a special prize package!

Introduction to Meditation
12:00 PM - 12:45 PM

This 4-week class will combine mindfulness activities, gentle physical movement, breathwork and meditation techniques.  Meditation has been proven to decrease anxiety and stress, increase mobility, build community, quiet the mind, improve sleep, support mental clarity and improve focus and quality of life! 

Attendance for all 4 weeks is not mandatory but highly recommended as each session builds on previous weeks. This is for all skill levels and beginners are encouraged!  

Erica Zeiger has been practicing yoga for over 25 years.  She is a 200 hour certified instructor through yoga alliance. Erica has completed the Positivity and Relaxation Training Instructor course at the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital.  Erica is passionate about sharing the benefits of meditation and mindfulness and aims to bring the practice of meditation to others to improve their overall well-being.

Free Narcan Training
6:00 PM - 6:30 PM

Narcan is the brand name of the generic naloxone and is a life-saving medication that can reverse an overdose from opioids - including heroin, fentanyl, and prescription medications - when given in time. This Free Narcan training will provide participants with a brief training on how to recognize an opioid overdose, when and how to use Narcan, and a free kit to take home. The kit includes:

2 doses of Narcan
Fentanyl test strips with instructions
Face shield
Instructions on Narcan administration
Recovery resource guide

This training is provided by the Encompass Coalition in collaboration with the Greater Boroughs Partnership for Health and will be held at 6-6:30pm August through November in the Adult & Teen Program Room at the Northborough Library.
