FAMILY SUPPORT GROUP FOR ANY ADULT WITH ADOLESCENT OR YOUNGER LOVED ONES WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED SYMPTOMS OF A MENTAL HEALTH CONDITION

The Oceanside Library, along with Queens /Nassau NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) , is sponsoring a peer-lead support group for any adult family member with adolescent or younger loved ones who have experienced symptoms of a mental health condition. Gain insight from the challenges and successes of others facing similar experiences.

NAMI’s support groups are unique because they follow a structured model, ensuring everyone has an opportunity to be heard and to get what they need.

-Free of cost to participants

-Led by family members of people with mental health conditions

-90 minutes long, meets at the Oceanside Library, every other week

-No specific medical therapy or treatment is endorsed

-Confidential

By sharing your experiences in a safe setting, you can gain hope and develop supportive relationships. This group allows your voice to be heard and provides an opportunity for your voice to be heard and provides an opportunity for your personal needs to be met. It encourages empathy, productive discussion and a sense of community. You’ll benefit from other’s experiences, discover your inner strength and empower yourself by sharing your own experiences in a safe, non-judgmental space.

Join  Dorothy Scott for a relaxing yet invigorating class that encompasses basic yoga poses which focus on lengthening the body’s muscles, while expanding the joints as we utilize the breath to gain clarity within.  We will begin slowly to gradually prepare the body for deeper asana (poses) and end it by honoring our practice with a relaxing (meditation) sivasana.

Evident-based research has shown that Tai Chi builds strength and balance. This workshop is run by South Nassau Community Hospital. Must be 65 and over.

Registration Required. No Fee.

Some frequently asked questions answered at the workshop include, "If I've tried Physical Therapy before, how will these exercises help me more?", "How can I get better if my MRI says I have stenosis/ herniated disc/ arthritis ", and "I've had pain for so long, how can anything besides a Vicodin or a scalpel take off the edge?" No need to bring anything but your attention and curiosity for Dr. Daniel Davids PT's workshop.

 This lecture will cover the role that the Manhattan Project played in the development of the Atomic Bomb, along with the military unit that was responsible for its use against Japan. In discussing the military unit, Dr. Joseph Papalia, will draw from facts and feelings based on his association and friendship with those men who flew the Atomic missions against Japan.

Evident-based research has shown that Tai Chi builds strength and balance. This workshop is run by South Nassau Community Hospital. Must be 65 and over.

This series will explore coding and how it applies to the real world. Join us each session for fun activities and conversations as we learn, explore, imagine, discover, and create!

In these first six four weeks, we will be exploring coding and its relationship with clean energy and the environment through the use of discussion topics and hands-on learning.

Coping with Public Incidents: A Supportive Approach to Dealing with Incidents Locally, Nationally, a

A combined psychoeducational workshop and support group approach for parents. Identify and discuss the root causes of the problem. How are you coping with the issue personally? The effects of the problem on the family structure. How safe do you feel in your own neighborhood?  Utilizing the support system at your disposal, what can we do to foster better community relationships? Talking to your children about these incidents will also be discussed.

Intro to Dance (Ages 18 months-2 1/2 years)

Children must be the age or in the grades specified by the first date of each program you register for.

Come and nurture your child's music ability. In this fun-filled class, children will be introduced to movement and dance which is great for early development. Children will also learn rhythm games, play with instruments, have circle time, and learn sharing skills. Registration required.
