2018 Haiku Contest

Judging: The 2018 contest is open for entries from March 26, 2018 through April 30, 2018. Award winners will be announced in May/June of 2018.

Deadline: In hand by April 30, 2018 at 9:00 pm. Entries received after that date will not be accepted.

Eligibility: Open to all ages; no residency requirement.

Rules: Submit up to three haiku per poet. Each haiku must fit the standard 3 line, 5 syllable, 7 syllable, 5 syllable format.

All haiku must be previously unpublished, original work, and not entered in any other contest or submitted elsewhere for publication. Please follow the guidelines carefully. Publication is defined as an appearance in a printed book, magazine, or journal (sold or given away), or in any online journal that presents edited periodic content. The appearance of poems in online discussion lists or personal websites is not considered publication. Judges will be asked to disqualify any haiku that they have seen before.

Permissions: By entering the contest, you are granting permission for the Oceanside Library and/or the Friends of the Oceanside Library to print the haiku in online or print form, including any Anthology, and on social media, its website, etc. All rights revert to the author, other than the right to publish set forth here.

Entry fee: There is NO Entry fee. The Library and/or the Friends of the Oceanside Library reserve the right to charge for any publication or anthology which may be created.

Stepping On: A Workshop on Preventing Falls

Registration is Required. No Fee. One registrant per form. 

When you register for this series, the session will include: March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, April 6, 13. You DO NOT have to register for each date – when you register for one class, registration includes ALL the classes in the series. Please sign up for only one session so other patrons have an opportunity to take this workshop. Thank you. 

Out-of-district patrons may begin registering Tuesday, January 9 at 7 pm.

South Nassau Communities Hospital's Trauma Center presents this series of workshops to help seniors 65 and older learn how to increase balance, prevent falls and maintain independence. Learn how to make your body stronger and your home safer. Attendees cannot rely on a walker or have dementia.
