Lecture: History of Mother's Day

Today husbands and children give chocolate and flowers to their mothers and take them out for dinner. But few mothers, husbands, or children realize that the holiday of Mother’s Day has a controversial history. Many women demanded a “Woman’s Day” holiday to celebrate their freedom and not a “Mother’s Day” to mark their commitment to husbands, children, the kitchen, and the home. Join Dr. Ronald Brown in discovering this wonderful American holiday as we explore the history of Mother’s Day.

Saturday Yoga: Vinyasa Flow
Vinyasa is a type of yoga that links movement and breath to attain balance in the mind and body. Connecting movement with our breath links our awareness to the present. Join  Dorothy Scott for a relaxing yet invigorating class that encompasses basic yoga poses which focus on lengthening the body’s muscles, while expanding the joints as we utilize the breath to gain clarity within.  We will begin slowly to gradually prepare the body for deeper asana (poses) and end it by honoring our practice with a relaxing (meditation) sivasana.

Bring a mat, and perhaps a towel and water.  Wear lose fitting clothing. Namaste.

Registration Required: Fee: $20.
