Vision 2020 Focus Group

Join us as we reimagine the Oceanside Library!

Vision 2020 will have 2 parts: 1) addressing pressing building infrastructure needs (replacement of the elevator, the roof, the bathrooms, the HVAC system, energy-efficient lighting, etc.), and 2) preparing the Library for the future.

The last significant work on the Library was completed over 22 years ago.

The Library is used much differently by the public today than it was in the 1990s. We need more meeting space, more quiet and group study space, comfortable seating areas and a café.

?Our Childrens’ Room needs to be modernized, we need a real Young Adult section for our teens, and revamped space for cooking programs, makerspace, STEM programs for all ages, arts and crafts, our special needs programs, movies, lectures, and more.

Our program attendance is up over 60%; use by students, particularly middle and high school students, has soared, as the Library has provided more opportunities for community service and space for group study during exams.

We will be hosting a series of small focus groups and large public hearings, in order to obtain input from the public on their vision for the Library’s future.

Whether the project is limited to the basic repairs, or whether the building is reconfigured to meet the needs of a modern library, a bond issue is likely to be presented to the public in May, 2020.

Final plans will be drawn after public input is obtained this Fall.

We are hosting a series of small focus groups and large public hearings, in order to obtain input from the public on their vision for the Library’s future.

Whether the project is limited to the basic repairs, or whether the building is reconfigured to meet the needs of a modern library, a bond issue is likely to be presented to the public in May, 2020.

Final plans will be drawn after public input is obtained this Fall.
