Art Lecture: Visual History of Santa Claus

Saturday Vinyasa Yoga with Dot Scott

Vinyasa is a type of yoga that links movement and breath to attain balance in the mind and body. Connecting movement with our breath links our awareness to the present. Join  Dorothy Scott for a relaxing yet invigorating class that encompasses basic yoga poses which focus on lengthening the body’s muscles, while expanding the joints as we utilize the breath to gain clarity within.  We will begin slowly to gradually prepare the body for deeper asana (poses) and end it by honoring our practice with a relaxing (meditation) sivasana.

Make sure to have a mat, and perhaps a towel and water.  Wear loose fitting clothing. Namaste.

Dorothy Scott is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

Our Own Worst Enemy: Habits That Harm Investors and How to Handle Them

Studies have demonstrated that behavior rather than performance is the primary driver of success for the typical investor.  Activities such as trying to time the market, checking portfolio balances daily and forming emotional attachments to stocks often result in inferior returns.  This presentation will examine these and other destructive behaviors and provide strategies to temper them.

The movements and postures in chair yoga encourages deep breathing, improved posture and meditation. It is said that chair yoga helps to reduce blood pressure, quicken recovery from injuries or surgery and improves sleep.  Chair yoga is a great way to experience overall well being in body and mind.

America’s Favorite Holiday Movie: A Look Inside It’s a Wonderful Life

Voted the most inspirational movie ever made by the American Film Institute, Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life has been a beloved Christmas classic for many generations. The snowbound streets of Bedford Falls, the desperate travails of George Bailey, and the discovery of Zuzu’s petals have become traditional signatures of the holiday season. Yet when the film was released in 1946, it was a box-office flop, won no Academy Awards, and was largely forgotten—until it was rediscovered through endless airings on local TV stations beginning in the 1970s and on annual Christmas eve broadcasts on NBC starting in 1992. This talk will examine the fascinating story of It’s a Wonderful Life, looking at the challenges of how it was made, its surprisingly dark portrait of small-town life, and how it became the ultimate portrayal of holiday goodwill and cheer.

A lecture by Brian Rose.

Namaste.
