The Rat Pack Rare Clips

Shelley Archives Inc. put together some of the rarest footage of the group in Las Vegas and other nightclubs, to give a complete historical performance of the trio at the height of their entertaining and exciting careers. Some of these film and video sources have never been seen by the public! Presented by Bill Shelley.  In the Swingin’ 1960s, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr, combined their musical talents to perform in sold out Las Vegas casinos to packed audiences under the name The Rat Pack. The shows were wildly funny and improvised, as they joked and sang their way through such classic hit songs as The Lady Is A Tramp, That’s Amore, and What Kind Of Fool Am I? Sometimes the group expanded to include Joey Bishop, Peter Lawford, Johnny Carson, Shirley MacLaine, Don Rickles and Liza Minnelli.  So popular were The Rat Pack, that they made a number of highly successful movies, records and television appearances. We’ve put together some of the rarest footage of the group in Las Vegas and other nightclubs, to give a complete historical performance of the trio at the height of their entertaining and exciting careers. Come and join the fun, learn the history of the group, the success and why they became the hottest act in Las Vegas, and the world! Presented by Shelley Archives Inc, Lecture by Bill Shelley.

Lecture: And That's The Way It Is: A Look Back At 70 Years Of TV News

Television news has undergone remarkable transformations in the last seven decades. Beginning with the Camel News Caravan with John Cameron Swayze in 1948, evening newscasts drew tens of millions of viewers nightly, and expanded from 15-minutes to 30-minutes when Walter Cronkite became the anchor of the CBS Evening News in 1963. With the launch of CNN in 1980, TV news expanded to 24 hours a day, seven days a week--and a new era in television journalism was born. Americans no longer had to wait until 6:30 p.m. to get their news but could tune in any time to find out what was happening, all over the world. In 1996, TV news would change once again with the launch of two new 24/7 cable channels: MSNBC and six months later the Fox News Channel, which introduced a more partisan approach to news coverage that would have enormous implications on American political life. This presentation will look at these sweeping changes and examine the impact--both good and bad--of television journalism over the last 70 years.

Saturday Yoga Series 2

Vinyasa is a type of yoga that links movement and breath to attain balance in the mind and body. Connecting movement with our breath links our awareness to the present. Join  Dorothy Scott for a relaxing yet invigorating class that encompasses basic yoga poses which focus on lengthening the body’s muscles, while expanding the joints as we utilize the breath to gain clarity within.  We will begin slowly to gradually prepare the body for deeper asana (poses) and end it by honoring our practice with a relaxing (meditation) sivasana.

Bring a mat, and perhaps a towel and water.  Wear loose fitting clothing. Namaste.

Registration Required.  Fee: $15.  Series includes: Saturdays, February 22, 29, March 7.
