Join us as we embrace the absurd and go beyond reality! Dada was a movement created during World War I as a reaction against war, fighting against traditional values. Followed up by the emergence of Surrealism which set to defy reason and logic in response to the seemingly unreasonable World War I. The art depicted unnerving, illogical scenes and developed techniques to allow the unconscious mind to spring forth.

“Saving Fire Island from Robert Moses” written by Christopher Verga, published by History Press, details the struggle between development and conservation. Moses’s goal to create a four lane highway out of Fire Island was fought by the community for thirty years. Bounding these grassroots efforts was the guiding idea that the natural beauty with limited access to motorized vehicles was a birth right for south shore residents. Armed with these efforts and guiding ideas, community residents waged a public relations war against Robert Moses, who wielded unchecked political power for thirty years with no accountability from voters. This war resulted in the creation of the Fire Island National Sea Shore and the beginning of the end of Moses career.
