Yoga - Virtual Hybrid

Yoga is for everyone.

However, when online, it is up to the individual to assess whether they are ready for the class that they have chosen.

Obviously, if you suffer from specific injuries or diseases it is best to consult with your physician first.

The practice of yoga requires you – the practitioner – to gauge the safety of your practice within your personal

physical limitations. It is better to build up slowly than to force and strain. Whilst one may feel exertion one should also feel relaxed.

The techniques and suggestions presented in this website are not intended to substitute for proper medical advice.
Consult your physician before beginning any new exercise program.

OBEN library / Kimberly Mercadante, RYT assumes no responsibility for injuries suffered while practicing these techniques, AND BY PARTICIPATING IN THIS PROGRAM, YOU AGREE TO RELEASE THE OYSTER BAY-EAST NORWICH LIBRARY AND ITS AGENTS FROM ANY INJURIES OR DAMAGE YOU MAY SUFFER.

Genealogy: Beyond Names and Dates: Filling in the Stories of Our Female Ancestors

For most of recorded time, women didn’t leave much of a paper trail, but they still had remarkable stories to tell. Although it may appear that they haven’t left many documents behind, deeper research into underutilized records will often lead to a better understanding of the women in our family trees. In this talk, we’ll explore a variety of records, and also look at local history, the law, politics, and the cataclysmic events that confronted them to help us bring their hidden stories to light.

Pam Vestal is a professional genealogist and speaker who turned her focus to her longtime love of genealogy after a 20-year writing career. Her articles have appeared in the Association of Professional Genealogists Quarterly and the FGS's Forum magazine, and her lectures take her from coast to coast. Pam specializes in conducting genealogical research and then turning that information into illustrated stories that even non-genealogists can enjoy.

This lecture is part of a collaboration with 6 libraries: Glen Cove, Gold Coast, Bayville, Oyster Bay,Manhasset, and Locust Valley. Join us each month for a different aspect of genealogy.

*This program is brought to you courtesy of the Genealogy Collective*

Registration begins on Friday, February 23rd at 9:30 am

NSPC: New York City During the American Revolution

Boston, Philadelphia, Yorktown… these are the places that usually star in the American Revolution, but New York City has a story to tell as well! NYC was burned, abandoned, repopulated, and put under martial law; it became home to pirates, runaway slaves, and smugglers; its churches were turned into hospitals, its warehouses into jails, and its cemeteries into pleasure gardens. Come learn about the history of New York City in the American Revolution from Archaeologist Patty Hamrick. Sponsored by Gold Coast Library.

NSPC: Exciting Discoveries in Art History

Who doesn’t love learning about a priceless painting found in an attic? Or a sculpture sitting for decades in a public garden, only to be found out as an Italian treasure? This lecture explores the stories of several different important and valuable works of art that have been rediscovered in unexpected places. The program reviews a brief background of each piece, its artist, and how the piece got to be lost, and then found. Presented by Mallory Mortillaro.

Mallory Mortillaro is an art historian and educator. She has ten years of teaching experience and has worked on various art research projects for museums and organizations in the New York metropolitan area. She studied at Drew University. Mallory resides in New Jersey with her husband.
