NSPC: Understanding the Presidency

“The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America." Created by Article II of the Constitution, much of the power of the presidency can be found in the actions of those who have occupied the office. In this discussion, we will analyze the intent of the Framers and the text of the supreme law of the land regarding the chief executive.

The North Shore Programming Consortium consists of five local libraries (Bayville, Glen Cove, Gold Coast, Locust Valley and Oyster Bay) that have come together to bring our patrons more of a variety in adult programming in a more cost effective way. We hope you enjoy the programs now accessible from the Consortium!

This program is hosted by the Gold Coast Library.

Yoga - Virtual Hybrid

Yoga is for everyone.

However, when online, it is up to the individual to assess whether they are ready for the class that they have chosen.

Obviously, if you suffer from specific injuries or diseases it is best to consult with your physician first.

The practice of yoga requires you – the practitioner – to gauge the safety of your practice within your personal

physical limitations. It is better to build up slowly than to force and strain. Whilst one may feel exertion one should also feel relaxed.

The techniques and suggestions presented in this website are not intended to substitute for proper medical advice.
Consult your physician before beginning any new exercise program.

OBEN library / Kimberly Mercadante, RYT assumes no responsibility for injuries suffered while practicing these techniques, AND BY PARTICIPATING IN THIS PROGRAM, YOU AGREE TO RELEASE THE OYSTER BAY-EAST NORWICH LIBRARY AND ITS AGENTS FROM ANY INJURIES OR DAMAGE YOU MAY SUFFER.

Canceled Basics of Medicare

CANCELED - RESCHEDULED TO JANUARY 9th

In this encore presentation, SSNA (Senior Services of North America) will teach you the basics of choosing the right medicare plans.

There are ever-changing Medicare coverages that many seniors are unaware of. At these seminars, which are approximately 30 minutes, we examine how a senior can navigate the changes to Medicare as well as learning about the benefits that they may be eligible for. Often, we hear of the medical nightmares that seniors go through, and it is our mission to address these concerns. Some of the points discussed are:

                      1. Tap into programs to lower your prescription drug costs the easy way
                      2. Learning how to find a Medicare plan that makes sense for you
                      3. Do TV ads really tell you the truth about plans?
                      4. Utilizing federal subsidies/programs to lower your Part B premium.
                      5. Learn about what to look for in a plan to have the suitable coverage you are looking for.

Registration begins on Friday, November 17th at 9:30 am.

Virtual Genealogy: Adoption and the Search for Biological Family

How can I find my birth family with little information? Learn strategies to help uncover ideas and to employ useful tools in searching for your biological family including adoption agencies, applying for information, DNA testing and adoption records registry.

I am a 10 year resident of Pompton Lakes NJ, I am happily married with a son, a daughter and a bonus son. I have been doing family history research for over 28 years, assisting clients with family tree building, DNA test analysis, safely and effectively contacting unknown family members. As
an adoptee, I spent many years searching for my biological family with
very few results. My starting information was wrong and the assumptions I
made were also incorrect, I did DNA testing to assist me with finding
the truth about my family and it ultimately lead me to the correct
family.

Basics of Medicare

Virtual Genealogy: Finding the Birth Mother - A DNA Case Study

Explore the case study of a woman who was adopted at birth in the early 1950s. Learn steps used to analyze her DNA matches against suggested relatives and how those matches and family tree information were ultimately used to identify her birth parents’ family.

Glenn York is an avid genealogist with decades of research experience at numerous facilities across the United States. Glenn began researching by pouring over microfilm at the National Archives and reading books at the Library of Congress in the 1980s while living in the Washington DC area. Over the years, Glenn has gained extensive experience in genetic genealogy and works with tests at all major DNA testing companies. He was first tested in 2005, and he currently manages DNA tests for over 35 family members. Glenn facilitates monthly DNA study groups for two genealogical societies and has assisted many in discovering their biological families through his understanding of genetic genealogy.

Registration begins on Friday, December 22nd at 9:30 AM - please register with a valid e-mail address.

This lecture is part of a collaboration with 6 libraries: Glen Cove, Gold Coast, Bayville, Oyster Bay, Manhasset, and Locust Valley. Join us each month for a different aspect of genealogy.

*This program is brought to you courtesy of the Genealogy Collective and is sponsored by the xx Library.

However, when online, it is up to the individual to assess whether they are ready for the class that they have chosen.

NSPC: It's A Wonderful Town: New York City in the Movies

For more than 125 years, filmmakers have been drawn to the dynamic vitality of New York City. Its dramatic architecture, its diverse neighborhoods and populations, its universally recognized landmarks, its 24/7 lifestyle, and its 8 million stories have helped make the city a featured player in more than 17,000 movies—including such memorable films as King Kong, Naked City, On the Town, West Side Story, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Taxi Driver, Wall Street, and Do the Right Thing. Illustrated with more than 50 clips, this presentation demonstrates the changing ways New York has been captured on film, and why it still remains a star attraction today.

The North Shore Programming Consortium consists of six local libraries (Bayville, Glen Cove, Gold Coast, Locust Valley, Oyster Bay and Sea Cliff) that have come together to bring our patrons more of a variety in adult programming in a more cost effective way. We hope you enjoy the programs now accessible from the Consortium.

Registration begins on Friday, December 22nd at 9:30 am - Please register with a valid email address.

NSPC: Taking the A Train:Harlem's Sugar Hill

African Americans moving to Harlem Heights. Central Harlem, as many of them were prosperous artists, politicians, and professionals settling down, bringing their money and influence along with them to the Hill. Sugar Hill served as the home of the Harlem Renaissance and the epicenter of the intellectual and cultural revival of African-American music, art, literature, theater, and politics.

Michael Rodgers was born and raised in New York City. After living in Japan and serving in the U.S. Navy, he attended New York University for his undergraduate degree. He went on to earn an MBA from Columbia Business School and worked on Wall Street for more than three decades. Michael has always been passionate about history, art, literature, and theater. His dynamic and engaging lectures appeal to a wide range of audiences.
