Plumb Library and Rochester Land Trust Trail Tale

We've extended the Plumb Library and Rochester Land Trust Trail Tale! This activity started April 15 and will now conclude June 30. Take a walk along the George & Katherine Church Wildlife Conservation Area Trail located at 193 Marion Road, Rochester, and read "The Gruffalo" by Julia Donaldson.
 In the middle of the story there is an extra page where the RLT taught us more about what following thing found at the property?  1. Trees  2. Birds  3. Ponds. Finish the story then write down your answer to the question And the 5 main characters in the story. Come to the library and share with a librarian. If your answers are correct, you will win a small prize. 
*The trail takes you through the woods. Please wear appropriate clothes, footwear and tick prevention.*

The 2021 statewide Summer Library Program (SLP) theme is Tails and Tales!  Sign-up for the Plumb Summer Library Program (below or on the library home page) and join us for seven (7)  weeks of FREE "things to do" for children (ages 3+), teens (13+) and adults starting June 21 and ending August 9

Read, attend events, and complete activities, challenges, and BINGO cards throughout the summer as your schedule permits. It's easy!  All you have to do is SLP - Sign up, Log, Participate!

Ms. Rhonda (Matson) is back for 2 outdoor FAMILY music making fun events - June 23 and July 28 These events are best suited for children up to age 9, but all are welcome!

Registration is required and is limited to 15 Families.   

At a Backyard Band Jam families engage in musical play with traditional children's songs, sing-along storybooks, props, and instruments  Remaining physically distanced, we sing together, move and groove together, and of course jam out together!  This jam will include many animal tunes to suppor the summer program theme of Tails and Tales!  

Please bring along something to shake,  scarf kind of thing - face cloth, dish cloth, etc., and a few instruments (a “real” instrument or ones made from the recycling bin or kitchen cabinets.) All that is really required is a willingness to play musically!

Jams will be held weather permitting. Rain dates may be possible.

Yogi Lisa is back to do four (4) summer animal themed  outdoor yoga classes.  She can't wait to meet you on your mat (or towel!).  Registration is required for each class individually.  Classes will be held on  June 24, July 8, July 22 and August 5 weather permitting  Maximum class size is 10 children aged 4-9.  

Yogi Lisa invites you to join her for this live, outdoor, fun and engaging adventure. Children will use their imagination exploring animal yoga poses, breathing exercises, songs, games, and stories. Activities will help children to grow physically, socially, and emotionally while learning yoga principles which foster cooperation, compassion, and healthy living. Children will work on strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, and cooperation during this energizing, yet relaxing, yoga practice. Please have your child bring their own yoga mat or towel and a bottle of water.

Can you find the Tails and Tales whale?  She is hiding in seven (7) windows within the greater Plumb Library area.  Clues to find her will appear on the 7 Saturdays within the SLP date range - June 26, July 3, July 10, July 17, July 24, July 31 and August 7 

You can either search for the whale weekly, or do the search all at once by reading all the clues. Either way, you need to record your answers on the "Where's the Whale" Hunt Form and share it with us at the library when you either complete a weekly guess or complete the whole form to earn prizes!  This form will be  in all T&T (Tails and Tales) bags and available at the library front desk.

If you can travel to the whale's location, take a photo with you and the whale and email it to us at info@plumblibrary.com. 

IF you can not travel to the whale's location or get to the library during business hours, use the clues and record your guesses on your form. You can email us the completed form or drop it in the dropbox.

Each Monday from June 21 - August 2 there will be a Scrambled Animal Word to unscramble at the library front desk, or on the event calendar (by date).  A new word is available each Monday, but you can ask for previous weekly words if  you missed them.The word could be a type of animal, a cartoon animal, a famous animal character in a book or movie, or your librarian's favorite animal!  

There will be a total of seven (7) words to unscramble  New words are available on: June 21, June 28, July 5 (available in the library starting July 6), July 12, July 19, July 26, August 2. 

Ask for the scrambled word at the circulation desk.  Write down your answer and give it to a libraran. If you are correct, you earn a small prize.

SLP 2021 - Rochester Tails n' Trails 4-H Club Animal Show and Tell!

 

The Rochester Tails n' Trails 4-H Club would like you to come and meet some of their 4-H project animals, including cows, rabbits, chicks and chickens, a mini horse, and more!  Come to learn some interesting facts and learn how we care for our animals.  We welcome you to ask questions and even pat our furry friends!   

This will be an outdoor program, weather permitting.  Registration is required and is limited to 12 children. If you can not attend this event, the club will be back  July 1 at 1:30 PM.

SLP 2021 - Wally's Making Books Come Alive via Zoom!

Join us on an interactive reading adventure with Wally, the official mascot of the Boston Red Sox!  Wally will act out scenes from different books while kids laugh along!. Children are encouraged to interact with Wally and help him as he increases their interest and love for learning. This is a 35-40 minute show hosted by Big League Brian and Wally. Can you find the Tails and Tales whale?  She is hiding in seven (7) windows within the greater Plumb Library area.  Clues to find her will appear on the 7 Saturdays within the SLP date range - June 26, July 3, July 10, July 17, July 24, July 31 and August 7 

You can either search for the whale weekly, or do the search all at once by reading all the clues. Either way, you need to record your answers on the Where's the Whale Hunt Form and share it with us at the library when you either complete a weekly guess or complete the whole form to earn prizes!  This form will be  in all T&T (Tails and Tales) bags and available at the library front desk.

If you can travel to the whale's location, take a photo with you and the whale and email it to us at info@plumblibrary.com.

Each Monday from June 21 - August 2 there will be a Scrambled Animal Word to unscramble at the library front desk, or on the event calendar (by date).  A new word is available each Monday, but you can ask for previous weekly words if you missed them. Yogi Lisa is back to do four (4) summer animal themed outdoor yoga classes.  She can't wait to meet you on your mat (or towel!).  Registration is required for each class individually.  Classes will be held on  June 24, July 8, July 22 and August 5 weather permitting.  Maximum class size is 10 children aged 4-9.  

Yogi Lisa invites you to join her for this live, outdoor, fun and engaging adventure. Children will use their imagination exploring animal yoga poses, breathing exercises, songs, games, and stories. Activities will help children to grow physically, socially, and emotionally while learning yoga principles which foster cooperation, compassion, and healthy living. Children will work on strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, and cooperation during this energizing, yet relaxing, yoga practice. Please have your child bring their own yoga mat or towel and a bottle of water.

Rochester Girl Scout Troop 62150 will be hosting 2 weeks of animal related programs which are geared to PreK - Grade 2 children.  All are welcome, however.  Program Dates are July 14, July 15, July 21 and July 22.  (The same class will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM and then again on Thursday at 1:30 PM.) Programs will held outdoors weather permitting. 

Registration is required and space is limited to 12 children. 

The Girl Scouts will read an animal themed story and help children create a related craft. There will be animal dance and movement activities. There also may be surprise live animal guests!

Children are encouranged to wear the favorite animal gear - hats, t-shirts, costumes, outfits etc.

Rochester Girl Scout  Troop 62150 will be hosting 2 weeks of animal related programs which are geared to PreK - Grade 2 children.  All are welcome, however.  Program Dates are July 14, July 15, July 21 and July 22.  (The same class will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM and then again on Thursday at 1:30 PM.) Programs will held outdoors weather permitting. 

Registration is required and space is limited to 12 children.

Yogi Lisa is back to do four (4) summer animal themed outdoor yoga classes.  She can't wait to meet you on your mat (or towel!).  Registration is required for each class individually.  Classes will be held on  June 24, July 8, July 22 and August 5.  Weather permitting. Maximum class size is 10 children aged 4-9.

Ms. Rhonda (Matson) is back for 2 outdoor FAMILY music making fun events - June 23 and July 28 These events are best suited for children up to age 9, but all are welcome!

Registration is required and is limited to 15 Families.   

At a Backyard Band Jam families engage in musical play with traditional children's songs, sing-along storybooks, props, and instruments  Remaining physically distanced, we sing together, move and groove together, and of course jam out together!  This jam will include many animal tunes to suppor the summer program theme of Tails and Tales!  

Please bring along something to shake,  scarf kind of thing - face cloth, dish cloth, etc., and a few instruments (a “real” instrument or ones made from the recycling bin or kitchen cabinets.) All that is really required is a willingness to play musically!

Jams will be held weather permitting. Rain dates may be possible.

Come meet Ms. Elsie and Blanka, her miniature therapy horse. This will be an outdoor event on the library grounds, weather permitting.  Ms. Elsie will read a story she wrote about Blanka and kindness. After the story, children will be allowed to ask questions. Then, each child will be given a turn to pet Blanka. Families will be required to sit on the mats provided, and will be called one family at a time to pet Blanka.    

Elsie is a Rochester resident, a Plumb Library storytime graduate, High School student, and an active 4H member involved in many community service projects.

Yogi Lisa is back to do four (4) summer animal themed outdoor yoga classes.  She can't wait to meet you on your mat (or towel!).  Registration is required for each class individually.  Classes will be held on  June 24, July 8, July 22 and August 5 weather permitting.  Maximum class size is 10 children aged 4-9.  

Yogi Lisa invites you to join her for this live, outdoor, fun and engaging adventure. Children will use their imagination exploring animal yoga poses, breathing exercises, songs, games, and stories. Activities will help children to grow physically, socially, and emotionally while learning yoga principles which foster cooperation, compassion, and healthy living. Children will work on strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, and cooperation during this energizing, yet relaxing, yoga practice. Please have your child bring their own yoga mat or towel and a bottle of water.

Can you find the Tails and Tales whale?  She is hiding in seven (7) windows within the greater Plumb Library area.  Clues to find her will appear on the 7 Saturdays within the SLP date range - June 26, July 3, July 10, July 17, July 24, July 31 and August 7 

You can either search for the whale weekly, or do the search all at once by reading all the clues. Either way, you need to record your answers on the Where's the Whale Hunt Form and share it with us at the library when you either complete a weekly guess or complete the whole form to earn prizes!  This form will be  in all T&T (Tails and Tales) bags and available at the library front desk.

If you can travel to the whale's location, take a photo with you and the whale and email it to us at info@plumblibrary.com. 

IF you can not travel to the whale's location or get to the library during business hours, use the clues and record your guesses on your form. You can email us the completed form or drop it in the dropbox.

All CHILDREN/TEEN program participants who share a photo by 2 PM will earn a small surprise.
