Summer Program 2022: Opening Day of Read Beyond the Beaten Path

The 2022 MA Statewide Summer Library Program (SLP), “Read Beyond the Beaten Path”,  begins at Plumb Library on June 24 and ends on August 6.  This year's theme focuses on  outdoor adventures, skill development and personal challenges!

We offer a robust children's program best for ages 3 -12, and simpler teen and adult programs.Registered participants are invited to read, attend special events, complete BINGOs and other activities (at home or at the library) throughout the summer as personal schedules permit. Logs are used to track reading, event attendance and activity completion progress. Sharing log progress with a librarian helps us fill our StickTogether Mosaic to uncover a hidden image. Weekly prizes can be earned! Logs must be turned in no later than August 6 to receive an invitation to an ice cream party at Captain Bonney’s on August 13. Plumb/RMS summer reading suggestions and resources can be found on both the RMS and Plumb websites.

Individuals must register for the program they wish to join.   Registration opens June 24 and ends July 15.

Registration links are available on our website https://www.plumblibrary.com or on the Event Calendar under June 24.

Once registered, please stop by the library to pick up your log, instruction sheet, BINGO sheet and more!

Library activities and events are listed on the Event Calendar.  Registration for events that require pre-registration opens June 24.

More information can be found on the Instruction Sheet, in our Summer Newsletter or on our Summer Library Program page.

Summer 2022: Bugs! Mad Science Workshop for grades K-6

Outdoor adventures always seem to include bugs! In this workshop, children will get engrossed in entomology! They find out that insects are arthropods and inspect authentic insect specimens. Insect anatomy is introduced and examined up-close. A container of creepy crawlers is divided into insects and non-insects. An ultraviolet powder demonstration lights up the truth on how insects spread pollen. Children learn how insects adapt by building insect puzzles at habitat stations. They examine a bag of insect defense representations and choose the one they want. An Insect-A-Vision Take-Home kit allows the junior entomologist to get bug-eyed at home!

Required Registration opens June 24 and is limited to 25 children in grades K-6.

Thanks to Rochester Lions Club for funding this and 2 other Mad Science programs for us this summer!
