Welcoming Week: Family Postcard Project (All ages)
10:00 AM - 5:00 PM

During Welcoming Week 2021 (September 10-19), kids & families can drop by the library to participate in a wonderful collaborative art project meant to welcome immigrants to the United States and spread a message of empathy and inclusivity.

How can you join in? Easy!

  • Pick up a blank postcard from Miss Allison or Miss Mary Claire in the Children's Area (anytime from 9/10-9/19).

  • Decorate it at home (front & back) with messages/pictures of welcome for new immigrants - or share your own family's immigration story!

  • Return your finished postcard to the library by 9/18.

Postcards will be displayed in the Children's Area windows, a community-created message that all folks are welcomed and supported here in Sharon!

October Craft Theme: Hispanic Heritage Month!

For the fall, Miss Allison will offer a limited number of monthly grab 'n' go craft kits for kids ages 9-13 to take home.

Due to the overwhelming positive response from families asking for kits these last few months, registration will be as follows:

1. Kits are available through Eventkeeper registration here on the library website calendar. (Please only email to register if you cannot register via Eventkeeper.)

2. Registration for the next month's craft will open the third Monday of the month. For example, you would email Miss Allison starting Monday, September 20th, to pick up the October grab n go project the first week of October.

3. You will receive an email response confirming your registration & letting you know when the kits are ready for pick up.

4.  Feel free to try our awesome curbside pick-up service. You can sign up for a curbside time slot and write "KIDCRAFT" in after your last name in the last name field of the curbside sign-up form.

The grab 'n' go kits include most of the supplies needed to complete the projects and instructions (sometimes including links to online and/or video instructions).

Participants are encouraged to share their finished crafts by sending photos to ariendeau@ocln.org or sharing on social media and tagging Sharon Public Library.

*Please note that Miss Allison makes every effort to provide awesome kits to as many kids/families as possible. Supplies are limited, so we ask that you limit your request to 1 kit per child.

Chapter Book Story Club
3:00 PM - 3:30 PM

Did you know that the benefits of reading aloud to children extend far into middle school? Kids who regularly get read out loud to have a more complex vocabulary, read more fluently, and become lifelong readers! Even if kids already know how to read, they can still reap the rewards of being read aloud to with a chapter book.

Join Ms. Mary Claire for a chapter book story club for kids ages 6-10 on the lawn of the Unitarian Church of Sharon across the street from the Sharon Public Library. As children learn to read and become more proficient, listening to engaging chapter books (even ones slightly above their independent reading level!) can help develop their vocabulary and listening comprehension skills. Not to worry if you have to miss a week, we'll recap what we've read!

This week, our time will be a little shorter since Ms. Allison has a program at 4 pm that some kids might also be attending.

Bring a snack, a blanket/chair, and coloring materials. Kids must be accompanied by an adult.

Space is limited, so registration is REQUIRED.

Sewing Threads of Diversity: Trip to the Fuller Craft Museum (ages 12-19)

Teen participants in our Sewing Threads of Diversity programs will have a chance to visit the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton with docent Laura Rosenspan (teacher of the Quilting for Beginners class) and see some wonderful exhibits.

Fuller Craft Museum offers expansive opportunities to discover the world of contemporary craft. By exploring the leading edge of craft through exhibitions, collections, education, and public programs, we challenge perceptions and build appreciation of the material world. Our purpose is to inspire, stimulate, and enrich an ever expanding community.

Registration is required to attend this program. Email Youth Services Librarian Mary Claire O'Donnell to inquire about registration. Preference will be given to participants in the grant program. Kids/teens under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

This program is funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

November Craft Theme: Harvest Time!

Monthly Curbside Craft Registration for December Grab n Go Kit (Ages 9-13)

December Craft Theme: Let it Snow!
