Curbside Delivery Block 1
11:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Curbside Delivery Block 1

While the Sharon Public Library is now open for limited patron browsing, we are continuing to offer our popular curbside delivery service as an alternative way to pick up library materials. The service will be the same as in Phase 2. For the full FAQ on our Phase 3 curbside delivery, please see our longer Q&A here. A quick summary:

1) Place your holds online via the OCLN catalog, or by calling 781-784-1578. If you call the library, please be aware it may take a while for library staff to respond. Phone lines will be busy, and staff will be managing operations in the building simultaneously. We thank you in advance for your patience.
Don't know what to request? Use our Reader's Advisory form to request a library staff member place materials on hold for you based on your selected criteria.

2) Wait until you receive a notice that your materials are ready; then, select a time slot for curbside delivery at the library's Eventkeeper calendarBased on patron and staff feedback, we are reverting to the curbside pickup procedures used in Phase 2. (We apologize for any confusion this may cause.) You will be required to select a specific time for pickup of library materials.

3) Please arrive on time to your curbside delivery time. A library staff member will exit the building with your materials, and verbally confirm your identity. The library staff member will then leave your library materials on the available table. Once the library staff member has safely re-entered the building, you may exit your vehicle and retrieve your materials. They will already be checked out to you.

Please observe all social distancing requirements as you collect your materials; and make sure that you are taking the correct bag (with your name on it), as there may be more than one bag of materials on the table at times.

For all other questions, please refer to the SPL Curbside Delivery FAQ. And thank you in advance for helping to make curbside delivery safe for staff and patrons alike!

A Long Walk Down a Winding Road: Author Talk
6:30 PM - 7:45 PM

Author Sam Farmer will discuss his book A Long Walk Down a Winding Road

Interwoven with real stories of personal triumphs, A Long Walk Down a Winding Road offers clear advice and simple steps for overcoming adversity and improving your life. Growing up, Sam Farmer contended with challenges many of us faceHe was bullied, faced difficulties around self-awareness and social skills, and struggled to build self-esteem. At the age of forty, he received a life-altering diagnosis of Asperger’s syndrome. In spite of initial feelings of frustration and confusion, he learned to embrace his newfound “Aspie” profile, recognizing that doing so would ultimately pave the way toward acquiring self-love.

Farmer has written this book in order to share his ideas and insights learned along the winding road of his life. The stories and wisdom shared will inspire and empower everyone to help themselves achieve happier, more productive lives. By emphasizing the importance of a broader acceptance of autism and arguing why it should not be thought of as a disorder, Farmer illustrates how society can greatly benefit from showing an understanding of people who are different.

Author Tina Cassidy Speaker Program
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Please join the Sharon/Stoughton League of Women Voters and the Friends' of the Sharon Public Library as they sponsor author Tina Cassidy.   Ms. Cassidy will discuss her new book,  "Mr. President, How Long Must We Wait?: Alice Paul, Woodrow Wilson, and the Fight for the Right to Vote".

This program will be an online video program on Zoom.  More information coming this fall.

As described by her agent, Richard Abate, Journalist Tina Cassidy’s vivacious biography of militant activist Alice Paul, one of the undersung heroes of the American women’s suffrage movement and a key player in the adoption of the 19th Amendment, looks at her in the context of and in contrast to President Woodrow Wilson, whom Paul and her peers considered their primary antagonist. Cassidy highlights, with clear admiration, Paul’s energy, vision, and persistence, crediting her with pushing for methods of engagement that are still key to protestors today—marches, picketing at the White House, lobbying, silent protest, noncooperation with arresting officers, and hunger strikes. Her radical push for a constitutional amendment put her in conflict with others in the movement like Carrie Chapman Catt, who preferred a slow, state-by-state approach grounded in the willingness of men to accept the idea of women voting. The depiction of Wilson is conflicted, sympathizing with his stress and fatigue, but ultimately painting him as a failure and an unworthy opponent. Cassidy’s descriptions of the protests and marches led by Paul and her supporters are delightful, full of boisterous color and drama, and featuring the full texts of the wordy (and cheeky) banners used. This engaging history brings the suffrage struggle to life.

We'll have a selection of coloring pages for you to choose from, along with markers, colored pencils and gel pens. Join us for a relaxing evening and color your cares away...

Come sing and learn with Ms. Marsha at the library!  Tot Time Sing n Learn is for toddlers nine months to three years old and their caregivers. Each month we play, sing, complete simple crafts, and have stories loosely based around a theme. We begin the session with a free play period that includes a variety of toys designed to engage your child. Each family leaves with information and ideas to extend the learning to home. This program offers parents the opportunity to meet other parents with children the same age. Drop in.
