Book Beats on FB Live

Join Miss Roxanne on the Shrewsbury Public Library Facebook Page for this early literacy music & movement program for preschoolers and their grownups to enjoy together. Enjoy songs, rhymes, chants, fingerplays and a flannel board using scarves, shaker eggs, and rhythm sticks. To make it even more interactive, have a look around your home before the event for something to use as a scarf (a washcloth or dishtowel?), something that makes a noise (rice in covered plastic container?), and two sticks to clack together (sticks or pencils or wooden spoons?).

Virtual - What It's Really Like to Write About Videogames for a Living

Have you ever thought you might want to write about videogames for a living?  Curious what that might be like?  Just interested in knowing about the state of the videogame industry these days?  Then join us for this fun, informal panel featuring four renowned videogame journalists who are ready to answer your questions about their experiences writing about electronic entertainment and share their opinions about what the future of gaming might be.

Allegra Frank is a senior editor at Slate, covering music, video games, and the internet. She worked previously at Polygon and Vox.

Kat Bailey is a senior editor at IGN and host of Axe of the Blood God, an independent podcast devoted to the coverage of RPGs.

Nicole Carpenter covers the video game industry and its culture as a senior reporter at Polygon.

During his 15-year tenure in the games press, Jeremy Parish's work included stints as editor-in-chief at 1UP.com and USgamer.net, as well as contributing material to nearly a dozen different magazines. All of these publications have been shut down, so now he focuses on chronicling the history of video games as media curator at Limited Run Games and through his own podcast and video projects.

Virtual - Relieve Stress Through Meditation

When uncertainty surrounds us, there is a way to discover peace and stability within us through meditation. By focusing your attention within you can tap into an abundant source of peace and calm that can enhance clarity of thought, relieve stress, and improve physical, mental and emotional health.

Join Arvind Naik, long-time meditator, as he explores the extraordinary effect of meditation to reduce stress-related responses. Learn a simple method of meditation that you can use anytime, anywhere-- a great addition to your wellness. There will even be a chance to practice this time tested technique.

Arvind Naik, MBA in Global Business Management from NYIT, is educated as an Electronics Engineer and works as a Data Architect and Business Professional in Information Technology.

He has been giving lectures and workshops on the topic of meditation, where he discusses how incorporating meditation into our daily routine can be life changing. In his programs Arvind explores how this practice can help each of us develop physically, mentally, and spiritually. Arvind led a meditation program at Target  and regularly speaks at libraries and community centers all across the country.  Most recently he spoke at Boston Scientific to introduce meditation as a tool for stress reduction in the workplace and he was invited by the Columbia Heights Police Department to give talks on the many benefits of meditation and how it can help the Officers with their day to day stress.  Arvind lives in Minnesota and is married with two sons.

Virtual - Borderland: The Life & Times of Blanche Ames Ames
Blanche Ames Ames (1878-1969) was an artist, an activist, a builder, an inventor, a birth control maverick, and a leader of the woman suffrage movement in Massachusetts. She was a woman of privilege who was not afraid to shock polite society. Her name doesn't appear in most American history books. This, too, is part of her story.

Borderland: The Life & Times of Blanche Ames Ames is a 55-minute documentary that chronicles the life of a woman who was born in the 19th century, worked to change the 20th century, and whose wisdom still resonates in the 21st century.

After the film, a Q&A will be hosted by Edmond Hands.

Edmund Hands is a local teacher of history with extensive experience in social studies curriculum mapping. He serves as a consultant for the Massachusetts Elementary School Principal’s Association for curriculum development. Author of Easton's Neighborhoods, Hands holds a B.A. in History from Bridgewater State and an M.A. in Latin American History from U. Mass Amherst. Hands is available for scholar led discussions at the high school level.
