Just because we can’t meet in person doesn’t mean the end of the Cookbook Book Group! We’ve planned an eclectic variety of programs designed to keep us cooking. We’ll chat with cookbook authors, local food purveyors and other foodies. We’ll learn, share ideas and maybe even find hidden culinary treasures. . .
First-time cookbook author Michelle McGrath will be joining us to talk about “The Creative Table: Inspired Recipes that Nourish, Gather and Unite.” Published in early November 2020, it was the # 1 cookbook in the New England category on Amazon in only ten days! She’ll share recipes and inspiration -- and how she happened to write a cookbook during a pandemic. Please register to get a Zoom invite!

The Shrewsbury Public Library and Shrewsbury Media Connection invite you to a joint local broadcast and online streaming event featuring a screening of “Stephano: The True Story of Shakespeare’s Shipwreck” and an exclusive Q&A session with two-time Emmy-nominated producer Andrew Giles Buckley.
This 90-minute film, a presentation of the series “Hit and Run History” by American Public Media, shares the story of Stephen Hopkins, the only Mayflower passenger who had been to North America prior to the famed journey in 1620. A decade earlier, Hopkins was aboard a Jamestown-bound ship that wrecked on Bermuda and provided inspiration for Shakespeare’s play, “The Tempest”. Shot on-location, the “Hit and Run History” crew retraces Hopkin’s life crisscrossing the Atlantic and examines stories that Hopkins may have been the model for the drunken, mutinous Stephano in Shakespeare’s play. Hit and Run History seeks out the reality of a man who was everywhere at the founding of America.

Join Reading Glasses - a casual and collaborative book group for adults in their 20s and 30s! Each month we take turns presenting our choices for our next read and we vote on a favorite. If you've ever dropped out of a book group because you didn't like the books being chosen, give us a try! We're more than just a book group, we're friends talking about books.
This month we're reading Stormy Weather by Florida Man Carl Hiaasen. "Hiaasen's latest madcap romp across southern Florida presents an apocalyptic panorama of the region in the wake of a storm much like Hurricane Andrew. Transforming a suburban sprawl into a lawless frontier, the hurricane puts on a collision course a demented cast of tourists, scam artists and eccentrics" (Publisher's Weekly).

Join Miss Roxanne on the Shrewsbury Public Library Facebook Page for this early literacy music & movement program for preschoolers and their grownups to enjoy together. Enjoy songs, rhymes, chants, fingerplays and a flannel board using scarves, shaker eggs, and rhythm sticks. To make it even more interactive, have a look around your home before the event for something to use as a scarf (a washcloth or dishtowel?), something that makes a noise (rice in covered plastic container?), and two sticks to clack together (sticks or pencils or wooden spoons?).
