Art Exhibition: Anne Marie Zanfagna

Local artist Anne Marie Zanfagna exhibits her oil paintings around the library. The pieces will be available for viewing Monday, April 29th through Saturday, June 1st. Drop in to see the pieces yourself on a self-guided tour.

All the portraits in this series are created as part of Angels of Addictions: an organization committed to putting faces to the rising numbers of addiction related deaths in our community to raise awareness and understanding of the disease. Angels of Addictions was conceived by Anne Marie about a year after the death of her youngest daughter, Jacqueline Zanfagna, who died of a heroin and fentanyl overdose on October 18, 2014.

The grieving and healing process led Anne Marie to paint Jackie; the first portrait she ever painted. She fell in love with the style. As she painted portraits of the children of others, Anne Marie began to feel a new purpose, often asking herself: “Where is the outrage?” We are losing a generation and too many still think of addiction as a moral failing. Addiction is a disease that we can fight, and this is Anne Marie’s way of fighting.

In Anne Marie's own words: "Each person who has lost their life to addiction has many people who loved them and were loved by them. Our desire is to grant all requests for portraits. It will take a great deal of time, but each person lived and loved and deserves to be remembered for who they were and not the disease that took them."

A reception with the artist will be held on Thursday May 9th at 5:30pm at the Wadleigh Library. Registration appreciated for the reception

Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body

Several factors determine whether any individual will suffer from cognitive decline or develop an Alzheimer's disease, including lifestyle, health conditions and genetics. But growing scientific evidence suggests diet and exercise -- health behaviors within our control -- play a bigger part than we ever thought. Join Melissa Grenier from the Alzheimer's Association as she shares this research into the connections between diet/nutrition, exercise, social engagement and cognitive activity. After you've been armed with the facts, Melissa will aid participants in developing a plan for healthy aging.

Melissa Grenier, LCSW, has two Social Work degrees and has worked in a variety of setting serving people living with memory loss. She has worked for the Alzheimer's Association, MA/NH Chapter, for over twelve years, and is currently the Regional Manager for the State of New Hampshire. Her role includes overseeing the operations of the Bedford, NH, regional office, and providing the Alzheimer's Association's wide range of programs, services and trainings across NH.
