Great Presenters: David Blais

Why are we still dealing with the challenges of food insecurity & hunger?

The answer, surprisingly, has nothing to do with food!

In 1969 the Nixon White House held a conference on hunger and declared that they were going to end hunger ‘Now and forever.”  Fifty-three years later we are still fighting the same battle with the Biden White House proclaiming that they will wipe out Hunger by 2030.

Join us as we journey into the real reasons hunger exists in this country and the unintended barriers that get in the way of creating a food secure nation.

David Blais is a lifelong entrepreneur, founder of the nonprofit Daniel’s Table and author of Grandma’s Love to Read, a children's book being used in schools to encourage family reading time.

David’s vision for Daniel’s Table has made him a non-profit food security leader. Combining innovative programming, educational opportunities and his proprietary software, Healthy Communities, has catapulted David into the national food security conversation. This includes his invitation to The White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health.

Hybrid event. Attend in person or via Zoom. Register below.

Let Freedom Read! Statewide Read-In

Grab a book and a comfy chair and come to the library for Let Freedom Read, a statewide read-in to celebrate the freedom to read!

“Libraries across the nation and in Massachusetts have experienced a surge in book challenges,” said James Lonergan, Director of the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. “We may not agree on what to read, but hopefully we can all agree that the freedom to choose what we want to read is a vital part of a democratic society. Libraries across the Commonwealth develop collections that meet the diverse needs of the communities they serve. Everyone is welcome to find a good read from their library and join the celebration,” he added.

Join us in the Rotunda, and throughout the library, to exercise your Freedom to Read! Digital participation is also welcomed. Download an eBook or audiobook through Libby or Hoopla and use #LetFreedomReadMA to post pictures to social media. For a complete list of participating libraries go to libraries.state.ma.us
