African Americans have played a major role in the development of our state, our nation and our world. African American women from Connecticut are no exception! Join us for an interactive multi-media program by the Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame, and learn about some of Connecticut's most remarkable African American heroines. From women's rights advocate Maria Miller Stewart and legendary contralto and Civil Rights catalyst Marian Anderson to pioneering journalist Adrianne Baughns-Wallace and former State Treasurer Denise L. Nappier, you'll be inspired as we explore the important contributions of African American women in Connecticut. Registration begins January 14, online or by calling Reference at 860-652-7720. C2 Education Logo-appears with permissionThe Welles-Turner Memorial Library is partnering with C2 Education to offer free, full-length, virtual practice tests for the ACT, SAT and PSAT for local high school students. On the day of the testing event, participants will receive a link via email that will bring them to a timed exam. After the exam is submitted, students will receive a score report with a comprehensive analysis of strengths and weaknesses via email. Registration is required; please sign up online here. For assistance, please call Reference at 860-652-7720.

Yoga Mat-copyrighted imageTeens, come join Heather Casale of Sacred Rivers Yoga for a virtual yoga class! This class will incorporate the physical and meditative benefits of yoga while trying to help you gain a deeper understanding of your practice. The instructor will lead you through fluid, dance-like movements while connecting you to your breath. Yoga is a great way to relieve stress and to connect with your body. Paint Night ~ Virtual Program for Teens

Winter Lake-Pams Picassos

Teens in grades 7-12, learn how to paint a real painting while at home! This is a virtual program that will be held via ZoomFollow along on with instructor Pamela Halligan of Pam’s Picassos as she walks you through creating your own masterpiece. For this class, we will be painting a nighttime winter scene. Registration begins January 26, online or by calling Reference at 860-652-7720. Registration with a valid email address is required to receive login information on the day of the Zoom meeting. Paint kits will be available for pick up at the library beginning Tuesday, February 16. The teen librarian will email you to arrange a pickup day and time.
