African Americans have played a major role in the development of our state, our nation and our world. African American women from Connecticut are no exception! Join us for an interactive multi-media program by the Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame, and learn about some of Connecticut's most remarkable African American heroines. From women's rights advocate Maria Miller Stewart and legendary contralto and Civil Rights catalyst Marian Anderson to pioneering journalist Adrianne Baughns-Wallace and former State Treasurer Denise L. For students in grades 9-12
The Welles-Turner Memorial Library is partnering with C2 Education to offer free, full-length, virtual practice tests for the ACT, SAT and PSAT for local high school students. On the day of the testing event, participants will receive a link via email that will bring them to a timed exam. After the exam is submitted, students will receive a score report with a comprehensive analysis of strengths and weaknesses via email. Registration is required; please sign up online here. Teens, come join Heather Casale of Sacred Rivers Yoga for a virtual yoga class! This class will incorporate the physical and meditative benefits of yoga while trying to help you gain a deeper understanding of your practice. The instructor will lead you through fluid, dance-like movements while connecting you to your breath. Yoga is a great way to relieve stress and to connect with your body. Teens in grades 7-12, learn how to paint a real painting while at home! This is a virtual program that will be held via Zoom. Follow along on with instructor Pamela Halligan of Pam’s Picassos as she walks you through creating your own masterpiece. For this class, we will be painting a nighttime winter scene. Paint kits will be available for pick up at the library beginning Tuesday, February 16. The teen librarian will email you to arrange a pickup day and time.
