Concert - Piano Four Hands
3:00 PM
Piano Four Hands. Celebrate Robert Schumann's 200th anniversary at the Library with pianists Jon Sakata and Jung Mi Lee. They will play Brahms' Variations on a Theme of Schumann, op. 23, for piano four hands, followed by Schumann's Symphony no. 4 in D minor, op. 120. Mr. Sakata and Ms. Lee have arranged the latter work for piano four hands based on Schumann's own transcription, which was published after his second version of the orchestral original. These two pianists have delighted Weston Library concertgoers for many years. They summarize their philosophy about the pieces they perform by saying, "No matter if a composer was born in the 1500's or the 1970's, we enjoy the freedom to explore and live with their work with whatever capacity, imagination and energy we have, and to do so as if each is a friend." Mr. Sakata and Ms. Lee have received both critical and popular acclaim around the globe, from Boston's Jordan Hall and BU's Tsai Performing Arts Center to the cultural capitals of Austria, Brazil, Estonia, France, Germany, Switzerland, and the People's Republic of China. They teach on the piano faculty at Phillips Exeter Academy.
