DID YOU KNOW: Nationally approximately 500,000 children aged 0-6 years old experience homelessness in the course of a year!
Horizons for Homeless Children is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing programs and services for homeless children throughout Greater Boston and Massachusetts. We work with shelters in and around your neighborhood and are eager to connect with people within the community you serve.
We offer daytime and evening shifts, so there is likely to be one that fits your schedule. A commitment of 2 hours a week for 6 months is required. Our next training is scheduled for Tuesday Dec. 1 and Wednesday Dec 2 from 6-9pm (with upcoming trainings on 1/30/2010; 3/30-31/2010; 6/5/2010). Please call (617) 445-1480 for more information on the PAL volunteer program and upcoming trainings. You can also visit us online at www.horizonsforhomelesschildren.org.

Old Ship Coffeehouse off the Square concert

Terence Martin and Danielle Miraglia will perform on a double bill at the Old Ship Coffeehouse off the Square on Sat., Nov. 21, at 8 p.m.
Born in London and raised in Los Angeles, singer/songwriter/poet Terence Martin offers music that is captivating, mellow, and thought-provoking. He is “a vivid wordsmith whose darkly fluid songs seep into your head and heart,” says critic John Platt, who must have heard Terence’s signature “The Way It Didn’t Go.” The “pleasingly warm and husky-voiced” Martin is a wizard with words.
A strong, steady thumb on an old Gibson guitar is the driving force behind Danielle Miraglia’s delta blues-influenced style. Yet her classic rock verve, catchy melodies, raw, powerful voice, and eclectic array of songs create a style all her own.
There is no open mike for this concert. Beverages and desserts are $1 each. Net proceeds benefit the Unitarian-Universalist Service Committee. For more coffeehouse information or to volunteer (free admission!) call 781-749-1767 or visit www.hinghambroadcastnews.com or http://bostoncoffeehouses.org/Old Ship/Old Ship.html.
Upcoming performers include Southern Rail for the Dec. 20 Christmas concert at 4 p.m. (no open mike); and in 2010, Steve Gillette and Cindy Mangsen, Barnacle, Aoife Clancy, New England Weather, and Bedrock.
The Coffeehouse off the Square is at the Old Ship Church Parish Hall, 107 Main St., in Hingham Square just up from the Loring Hall Theater and on the MBTA’s 220 bus from Quincy Center. Admission for this concert is $10 at the door (sorry, no reservations).
