THAT DARKNESS by Lisa Black

Title: That Darkness, Author: Lisa Black

Do you like to talk about the books you enjoy reading with others?  Then join us the second Monday of each month at 2pm for reader-to-reader discussions, informal fun, and sharing with fellow fiction lovers.

In this month's selection  Maggie Gardiner notices a connection between the battered body of a young girl left in a cemetery and a career criminal shot in an alley, she must follow a trail no one else wants to see, picking up crumbs of evidence that no one else notices.

Jack Renner is accustomed to being the hunter, not the hunted. He kills to make the world a safer place—even if that makes it a more dangerous one for Maggie. He will not let her stop him.

One body at a time, Maggie circles in on a killer. But it’s what she find inside herself that will bring the terrible truth to light . . .

No sign-up is required.  Refreshments are served.  Come and meet with other adults who like to read and discuss lighter fiction.

Author Robert J. Roman draws on extensive archival research to tell the untold story of the early days of football at Ohio's flagship public university. Eleven men played both sides of the ball, quarterbacks were often the smallest man on the team, and coaches were not allowed to communicate with the players during a game. Eager to establish their school as the equal of older, wealthier, and more strictly religious colleges, Ohio State students saw intercollegiate athletics as their path to respectability. Learn about the history of this incredible team. This presentation will be followed by a book signing.

They love other colors as well. Each month the members receive new patterns to add to their portfolio of ideas. Come share work to encourage each other. The goal is to provide a non-judgmental atmosphere in which kids can read without correction or interruption and learn not just to read, but to love reading as well. The purpose of Paws for Reading is to make reading an enjoyable experience and to enhance children's literacy skills through reading buddies, one-on-one attention, opportunity and bonus programs. Researching Your Immigrant Ancestors Before 1820

Tracing ancestors before 1820 can be extremely difficult due to a lack of documentation and limited accessibility of surviving records. Focusing on European immigrants to the eastern seaboard, a librarian from the Special Collections Division will provide an overview of strategies and sources commonly used in researching early immigrants. Please note: This genealogy class is geared toward those with intermediate research skills. Because electronic resources are used, basic computer skills are recommended.

This class will take place in Computer Lab 2 on the First Floor of Main Library.

To register, please call or email the Special Collections Division.

Racing Through the Holy Land:  9,000 Years in 9 Days

Pictures and presentation by Karen Sue Eckart.  Many things about her trip to Israel surprised Ms. Eckart. (like how lush and green the northern part of the country is). If you are curious at all about modern day Israel and its Biblical history, come take a trip with Ms. Eckart. At each stop, we will talk about the Biblical context, history and archaeology. She will also share the things their Jewish guide told them about modern day Israel.

Monday, June 5, 6:30 pm

Down to the Dead Sea - Part 1:  Starting at the uppermost boundary of Israel, we will work our way down the country to the Dead Sea. Stops include the Sea of Galilee, where Jesus spent most of His ministry. We will also visit Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. Then onto Masada, the last Jewish stronghold against the Romans. And from there, into the Dead Sea. Many other stops are included.
