In this nontraditional Preschool Story Time, books are read to preschoolers who love to read!  Songs, rhymes, fingerplays, and toys are used to help kids learn and love to read.  At the end of story time the kids are invited to put laminated pieces on a scene board and tell everyone their story that they created.  A great way to encourage imagination, creativity, and story-building!

Registration is NOT required.

(Children learn best through role modeling. Caregivers are asked to be great role models and be attentive and engaged in the story time. Side conversations can take place during free play. Thanks!)

Holiday Card Making

Thursday, December 4th, 4-6pm

Friday, December 19th, 10am-Noon

Tis the season for spreading holiday cheer and being with friends & family! Unfortunately, sometimes people in our community don't get that chance or opportunity. So Mr. Jason thinks the library can help and bring some smiles to those people in our community with some holiday greeting cards. We need your help!

Come to the library and make a few holiday cards using our supplies. Mr. Jason will gather them up, and then deliver them to Fair Acres Geriatric Center and others (depending on how many cards we make). Teach your kids the importance of volunteering and giving back in the community, all while being crafty!

Ridley Township Library recently applied for and received a grant from Access Beyond the Stacks, a project of the PIAT(PA's Initiative on Assistive Technology). This project is geared to enable older adult patrons and others who are experiencing vision loss to return to libraries once again. The library received an IPad and a magnifying device, as well as headphones and stands for the devices.  These portable devices provide magnification and text to speech reading.

On Friday, December 5th from 12:30 to 2:30, PIAT will sponsor an Open House where patrons can learn about and try the equipment provided by the grant. This event will help to spread the word about the library's new equipment to those with vision loss and to those who know someone who could benefit from the equipment. PIAT will not only demonstrate the equipment but will provide take-away information about Access Beyond the Stacks, vendor resources, and other materials about borrowing and funding equipment.

This is a Health Literacy Program of the PA Forward Initiative.

This month's movie is:  The Hundred Foot Journey, starring Helen Mirren.

An Indian teen in France goes to work for his father's culinary adversary in this drama based on the bestselling novel by Richard C. Morais. Put young Hassan Kadam (Manish Dayal) in a kitchen, and he's bound to emerge with a dish that will dazzle. When Hassan's family is forced to move from their native India, his Papa (Om Puri) relocates to a peaceful hamlet in Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val in the south of France. Determined to give his new neighbors a little taste of home, Papa decides to open an Indian restaurant in the village, and names it Maison Mumbai. Meanwhile, across the street at the traditional French restaurant Le Saule Pleureu, uptight proprietor Madame Mallory (Helen Mirren) doesn't exactly welcome the competition. When Madame Mallory ignites a bitter feud that quickly escalates, the only hope for a peaceful resolution lies in Hassan's talent for French haute cuisine, and his growing affections for Mme. Mallory's pretty young sous chef Marguerite (Charlotte Le Bon). Subsequently impressed by Hassan's undeniable culinary talents, Mme. Mallory agrees to become Hassan's mentor, in the process providing the perfect creative environment where his unique fusion cuisine can thrive. Lasse Hallström directs a film produced by Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey, and Juliet Blake. Author: Jason

John Blessing dies and leaves behind two small children.  The loss reverberates across his extended family for years to come. His young widow, Lauren, finds solace in her large clan of in-laws, while his brother's wife Kate pursues motherhood even at the expense of her marriage. Through departures and arrivals, weddings and reunions, THE BLESSINGS reveals the interior worlds of the members of a close-knit Irish-Catholic family and the rituals that unite them.

The Library was selected for an exciting new program called the Block Party Project!  The Block Party is a workshop format to engage parents in block play with their children. Children are born learners, but they need experiences to be stimulating, fun, and interactive.  Parents can guide children’s early learning experiences and use blocks as the tools to support their development.  Playing with blocks can provide experiences where children learn math and science, new words and pre-reading skills, social skills, creativity, physical skills, and problem-solving skills.

Block play is fun for both children and adults. For more information about the Block Party program, call the library at 610-623-0239 ext 304 or visit: www.lplcysd.blogspot.com
