Come and join us for a story, song, and craft accompanied by an educational theme each week. This week we will let our 'imaginations run wild' with inventive and super fun stories. We will also have time to play with an assortment of toys to stir our imagination.  After story time, we will continue adding to the fun with our traditional book trek around our children's department. We'll search for all the new books we want to take home and discover new subjects to learn about in the process.

Read-Ercise w/ Toddlers

ENCORE PRESENTATION! Since this story time at 10:30am is so popular, Mr. Jason will be doing a second encore story time immediately after the first one. This way, the crowd won't be so big. So feel free to come to the 10:30am or the 11:30am story time for your toddlers!

In this Toddler story time, kids act out the books as they are being read, making them feel part of the story!  Stories, songs, fingerplays, rhymes, and toys help toddlers learn and love to read!

Tuesdays at 11:30am. Registration is NOT required.

(Children learn best through role modeling. Caregivers are asked to be great role models and be attentive and engaged in the story time. Side conversations can take place during free play. Thanks!)

Unnecessary Risks: an author talk

By Tim Plummer

Wednesday, April 26 at 7pm

It is 1993, two years since the Iron Curtain fell. Lieutenant Colonel Tim Plummer is headed to Russia. He isn’t going to Russia on a military mission, however. He is hoping to reunite with an old friend—the Soviet officer who saved his life in the Sinai Desert during the cease-fire that followed the 1973 Yom Kippur War.

Tim Plummer graduated from West Point in 1959. His subsequent twenty-year Army career included travel throughout the Soviet Union during the height of the Cold War. He served as a cease-fire observer with Soviet officers during the 1973 Yom Kippur War. After the fall of the Soviet Union, Plummer returned to Moscow to reunite with the Soviet comrade who had saved his life.

Plummer lives in the Borough of Rose Valley, Pennsylvania, where he is a two-term mayor as well as founder and president of a non-profit conservancy dedicated to the betterment of his community. He is a daily lap swimmer and an avid fly fisherman.

"PAWS for Reading is a program that allows children to read aloud to a therapy dog (or cat, or bunny!) in order to improve reading and communication skills. Children read individually to trained therapy pets (and their handlers) in schools, libraries, or other settings where they can feel comfortable and confident — and have fun! After all, a dog will not correct them or make them feel awkward if they stumble."

MFL is now a participating library in PAWS for Reading program! We have enough spaces per visit for 12 kids/readers. We recommend ages 5+ (or any one who can read aloud).

Dates for PAWS for Reading:

Wednesday, May 3 @ 6:30pm

Saturday, May 6 @ 2pm

Wednesday, June 7 @ 6:30pm

Saturday, June 10 @ 2pm

Readers are limited to 10 minutes of reading aloud to a pet, but can read on their own or color while waiting. Register to reserve a spot for your young reader using his/her name. Click "Add Guest" to add spot(s) for siblings. Click on the dates above to go to that date's registration page.

The 10-minute time slots will be done on a first come, first to sign up on site at the library on the day of the visit.

If you register but do not show-up without notice, you will forfeit any future sign-ups for this program.

Those on our wait list are welcome to come and take any open space that may happen from no-shows.

This program is sponsored and made possible by Media Veterinary Hospital!

June 7, 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Dean Martin. In his one-man show "That's Amore," Dave DeLuca imitates Martin's relaxed, warbling, crooning voice as he performs signature songs such as Memories Are Made of This, Everybody Loves Somebody, You're Nobody till Somebody Loves You, Sway, Volare, Ain't That a Kick in the Head, and That's Amore.

Martin was one of the most popular and enduring American entertainers of the mid-20th century. He was nicknamed the King of Cool for his seemingly effortless charisma and self-assuredness. He and Jerry Lewis were partners in the internationally acclaimed comedy team Martin and Lewis; and he was a member of Frank Sinatra's Rat Pack as well as a star in concert and in recordings, motion pictures, and television.

Container gardens allow you to easily dress up your balcony and patio, create a colorful welcome for guests and keep edibles close at hand for cooking and entertaining. They’re also a terrific way for new gardeners to get their start. You may grow vegetables, herbs or flowers in a container.
