T’ai Chi Chih is a gentle moving meditation practiced by thousands of people around the world and designed for a lifetime of movement.  T’ai Chi Chih can be adapted to any physical condition and modified to a seated practice. Wear comfortable clothing to class.

Class size is limited.  Registration is required for each session you’d like to attend.  If you find you cannot attend a session after you’ve signed up, please let us know as soon as possible so someone on the waiting list can have your spot.

Radnor Memorial Library, along with its partners Radnor Conservancy and Jenkins Arboretum & Gardens, invite you to our winter conservation film series that features 3 award-winning films that will be screened at Jenkins Arboretum & Gardens, located at 631 Berwyn Baptist Road, in Devon. Admission is free and registration is not required.

January's film selection is Mind of a Giant.   Mind of a Giant explores what it is like to be an elephant, as revealed by revolutionary new research. As scientists struggle to find out how many elephants are left in Africa, they discover intriguing new behavior. We are discovering that elephants must be considered one of the most clever and complex creatures on the planet. They exhibit empathy, grief, joy, fear, and more emotions. They have self-awareness, can cooperate, and pass on information and adapt to solve problems in ways we never knew.

The Cut: The Journey of the Men and Women of Duffy's Cut, is a feature length documentary film about the 57 Irish railroad workers who arrived in Philadelphia to build mile 59 of the Philadelphia and Columbia Railroad, and died within six to eight weeks of violence and cholera. The Irishmen were from Donegal, Tyrone and Derry in Ulster, with an average age of 22. A project, headed by Dr. William Watson and his brother Rev. Frank Watson, has been underway since 2002 to locate the graves of these workers and properly rebury them. To date, the graves of seven workers have been excavated. Work is ongoing to recover the remaining fifty bodies. The historical marker is located in Malvern. The Cut was directed by Shawn Swords of Character Driven Productions and Irish American Films.

“This documentary is the newest and most extensive coverage of the Duffy's Cut story and it places the events at Duffy's Cut in the context of other 1832-era deaths of Irish immigrant laborers elsewhere in Chester County," stated Dr. Watson. The film discusses the possibility of the site being the location of the worst mass murder in Pennsylvania history.

The 65-minute film will be followed by a discussion moderated by Mr. Swords and Dr. William Watson.

The program will be held in the library's 2nd floor meeting room. There is no elevator.

Limited to 20 people. Due to space restrictions, this program is for adults aged 18 and up. Registration is required.

Chair Tai Chi -“Tai Chi Chih©”

Every Thursday - January 25th to March 1st, 2018

Interested participants will be introduced to “Tai Chi Chih©”, a moving meditation. It is easy to learn, and doesn’t require a particular level of physical fitness or coordination.  Consisting of 19 movements and one pose, TCC attracts  the widest audience because even those with physical limitations can participate, performing the movements while seated.  During the six one hour sessions, participants will have the opportunity to learn and practice, basic movements while seated, with an accredited Tai Chi Chih teacher, Sr. Christa Marie Thompson.
The body of high quality medical evidence providing sound arguments for practicing TCC is growing along with TV, newspaper, magazine, and “Web” accounts of the wide ranging health benefits  regular practitioners have gained.
Studies linking TCC to positive changes in all of the following:
Arthritis                                                COPD
