Teens and parents are invited to join Peter DiSilvio, Deputy County Attorney for an informative presentation on the variety careers in law.

Thank you to Nassau County Bar Association for arranging our guest speaker.

Register online, in person, or by phone, 466-8055, ext. 218.  For teens in grades 7 – 12.  There is a separate registration for teens and parents.  Parental attendance is encouraged, not required.

The SAT Prep Course is taught by NYS certified math and verbal skills experts.  Students should bring a calculator, pen or pencil, and a notebook to class.  There is a $25 fee per student for the course (fee includes the textbook). Advanced registration is required.  Juniors and seniors will be given priority.  A minimum enrollment of eighteen students is required for the course to take place.

Wednesdays and Thursdays, November 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16 at the Main library from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

In-person registration is on Wednesday, October 25, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Main library.  Arriving early is recommended.  Telephone registration for remaining openings begins on Thursday, October 26 at 10 a.m. by calling Main at 466-8055, ext. 218.  If space permits, freshman and sophomores will be allowed to register for the course on a first come, first serve basis from a walk-in line on the night of the first class, Wednesday, November 1, just before the start of class.  A line for walk-in’s will form at 6:00 p.m.

SAT or ACT Practice Test
Saturday, November 18, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Main Library

Curvebreakers will administer a fully timed and proctored SAT or ACT exam, just like the real exam.  Teens will choose which test they want to take when they register.  The practice exam will help students get a feel for the timing and stamina required for the real exam.  Each student will get back the graded exam with scoring information and customized comments.

Wednesday, November 29, 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Main Library
Nick LaPoma, Curvebreakers founder will hand back the exams, explain the scores and how to analyze them.  He will advise parents and students on how to choose between the SAT and the ACT.  Parents are encouraged to attend the results session.

Registration is for teens in grades 9 and above and starts on Friday, November, 10 at 10:00 am, online, in person, or by phone, 466-8055 ext. 218.  Advanced registration with teen’s own library card is required.  Teens who take the practice test are automatically registered for the score results session.  Should the practice test registration and waiting list become full, walk-in’s will be admitted on a first come first serve basis, if space permits.

The college essay landscape is rapidly changing. Keep up with the new changes to the common application essays and supplemental essays by attending this program given by Curvebreakers Test Prep. Curvebreakers Test Prep CEO and college admissions expert Nicholas LaPoma will be appearing at our library to explain the recent changes to essay topics and also to explain how to produce individualized essays that will give you your best chance at acceptance.

Nick LaPoma is a member of the IECA (Independent Educational Consultants Association) and has advised students on college admissions for 10 years. 

There is a separate registration for teens and parents.  Parental attendance is encouraged, not required.
