Join an International Movement to promote Computer Science and Coding. The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries.   These skills are needed for future employment.  The Coding is fun and mostly self guided.  Three time slots available.  LImited space.  Registration starts Thursday, December 1.  Please register for just one time slot.  No previous coding experience necessary.  You can bring your own laptop or use a library computer.

Must be in grades 4-12.

Come for the book discussion and then party with participants from out September Battle of the Books participants.  Ice Cream cake for this special event.  The book is Bone Gap by Laura Ruby and will be available starting November 14 in the lobby.  Bone Gap is" told from alternating viewpointsIt perfectly melds elements of fairy tales, myths, gothic romance, and magic realism into the story of Finn, who lives in a town with gaps in the very fabric of time and place."  This book is the winner of the 2016 Printz Award.  We will be downstairs in the Story Time Room.

Make a meal in a jar with fresh ingredients, noodles and hot water.  Select your own base, vegetables and seasonings, and then share the results with other chefs.  You will also make one jar to take home for that special winter lunch or snack.  Limited enrollment starts Monday, February 6.

This generations has Edward Snowden, an ex-CIA contractor who "leaked' information about the US extensive surveillance program.  Read about another person who leaked information about the Vietnam War in Most Dangerous: Daniel Ellsberg and the Secret History of the Vietnam War written by Steve Sheinkin.  2016 winner of the best nonfiction for teens.  "A thrilling journalistic account of government insider Daniel Ellsberg, who leaked the Pentagon Papers and exposed the questionable decisions that led to the United States’ involvement in the Vietnam War.
