The Pawtucket Public Library will be hosting a monthly Coloring Club! As our lives become busier with each passing day and technology is ever more present, our access to work, obligations, and stress increases. Constant stimulation and unrealistic expectations have left us burnt out and distanced from the present moment. Color Me Calm examines the benefits of putting pencil to paper and offers adults an opportunity to channel their anxiety into a satisfying, creative accomplishment. Join us for a fun and relaxing program of filling in detail coloring pages along with others.  This program is free and open to all ages. No registration is required.

This month's book: When Life Gives You OJ by Erica S. Perl

Zelly Fried wants a dog more than anything, so at the urging of her grandfather, during the summer before sixth grade she takes care of a "practice dog" made out of an orange juice jug to show her parents that she is ready for the responsibility, even though she is sometimes not entirely sure about the idea.

A monthly book club for kids in elementary school. Sign up in the Children's Library to get a copy of the book from the library. The first 15 kids who sign up will receive a FREE paperback copy of the book, generously provided by the Rotary Club of Pawtucket. When the free copies have been all given out, families can borrow a copy of the book from the library. Kids can read the book on their own or with someone else. All the readers are invited to attend the Book Club for Kids program on Saturday, April 9th at 11:00am in the Children’s Caidin Room to laugh about favorite parts, play a trivia game, and make a craft.

A special thank you to the Rotary Club of Pawtucket for sponsoring the Book Club for Kids program.

This month's book: The Small Adventures of Popeye and Elvis by Barbara O'Connor

In Fayette, South Carolina, the highlight of Popeye's summer is learning vocabulary words with his grandmother until a motor home gets stuck nearby and Elvis, the oldest boy living inside, joins Popeye in finding the source of strange boats floating down the creek.

All the readers are invited to attend the Book Club for Kids program on Saturday, June 4th at 11:00am in the Children’s Caidin Room to laugh about favorite parts, play a trivia game, and make a craft.

A special thank you to the Rotary Club of Pawtucket for sponsoring the Book Club for Kids program.

Celebrating Latino Authors in RI

a celebration of children, families, and reading

Latino Books Month, celebrated annually in May since 2004, promotes books by and for Latinos. This month-long celebration is sponsored by the Association of American Publishers (AAP), which encourages booksellers, librarians, and teachers to promote books by and for Latinos and encourage their communities to read Latino books in both English and Spanish.

We are happy to announce that Meg Medina, acclaimed Latina author & illustrator, will be our guest during Latino Books Month. Meg is a Cuban-American author for children and young adults. She was awarded the coveted Pura Belpré and International Latino Children’s Book Awards in 2014 for Yaqui Delgado Wants to Kick Your Ass (one of our 2014 selected RI Latino Books Month books).

We are likewise happy to announce that Christina Rodriguez, acclaimed childrens books illustrator, will be our artist guest during Latino Books Month. Christina is an award-winning children's illustrator of more than a dozen picture books, including Adelita and the Veggie Cousins / Adelita y las primas verduritas and several other bilingual titles published by Arte Público Press. She lives and works in Providence, Rhode Island.

She will be joining Meg as part of a panel of Latino authors/illustrators at the Pawtucket Public Library on Sat. June 4th and will be available to sign copies of her books.

Meet the author and artist:
Attend the closing of May is Latino Books Month at the Pawtucket Public Library to engage in a panel discussion about writing and illustrating. A Latino cultural dance performance will also be provided as part of the celebration.

Come read to therapy dogs Tinker Bell & Wendy! If you need practice reading or just like reading to dogs, Tinker Bell and Wendy are the dogs for you! Reading times are in 15 minute blocks. Sign up for one or just come hang out and see if the girls have any free time for you. This program is for children of all ages.

"For young kids, one of the big challenges in learning to read is the embarrassment of making mistakes. Reading to dogs provides a simple solution -- a non-judgmental, comforting furry friend who "listens" and takes the pressure off a child as he stumbles." - ABC News (8/18/10)
