Silent Movies! (Part 1) / Meeting RoomWednesday May 22, 2024
6:00 PM until 7:30 PM
Take a trip back in time and experience the early days of Hollywood magic!
Watch Buster Keaton in a silent film, Sherlock Jr., plus sound effects and animation devices with live piano accompaniment.
If you’re curious about watching silent movies with live piano accompaniment from the twenties (the 1920s, that is!), now’s your chance to experience the ‘sight gags’ of Buster Keaton. He was a laugh riot in this romantic comedy “who-done-it” about a private detective wanna-be who tries to solve a mystery just to impress his girl. Before introducing this movie, silent film historian and pianist Richard Hughes will demonstrate some animation devices invented around 1879. He also has sound effects that the audience can synchronize along with a melodrama from 1913. Great fun!
Kids accompanied by parents are welcome. Registration is not required.
