Heritage Connections: Finding African American Death Records at LH&G

Adults Only Workshop - Registration Required! 

Join us at the Local History & Genealogy (LH&G) division of Mobile Public Library for this special workshop about locating African American death records. Angelia Bendolph, President of the Mobile Chapter of the Association for the Study of African American Life & History, will introduce herself and ASALH, followed by a case study by Jim and Georgeann Ellis on using cemetery ledger books and death records to locate lost gravesites at Oaklawn Memorial Cemetery.
 
After a short presentation on Local History & Genealogy resources, participants will be assisted by LH&G staff members in locating death information including funeral notices, obituaries, and death and burial records. Participation is limited to 15 attendees; to register please email Ms. Theris at etheris@mplonline.org, and be sure to watch for a reply to in order to complete the registration process.
