After a brief summer hiatus in 2018, the Portsmouth Public Library is pleased to announce the Summer 2019 Genealogy Workshop offerings! Presented by the library’s Special Collections staff and members of the Ranger Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), these events are free, open to the public, and always appropriate for all levels of interest and experience. Please note the change to Thursday. We hope you will join us on the third Thursday of each summer month.

Probate and Legal Documents in NH with Alex Auty

Locating and navigating legal documentation is often a daunting task. Alex Auty will introduce us to probate and legal documents in New Hampshire that could be a treasure trove of information to assist in your genealogical research. Often these documents give life to the dates of your ancestors’ lives. Alex’s background as an attorney has led to a special interest in law related topics including land records, probate and court documents. 

Alex lives in Durham and has been an active genealogist for the past 7 years. She is a 2014 graduate of the Boston University Certificate Program in Genealogical Research and a professional development program called Progen. She has attended several educational institutes and earned certificates in topics such as Advanced Methodology & Evidence Analysis, Writing and Publishing for Genealogists, Land Tools & Maps, and most recently, DNA. She has been on staff at the Family History Center in Exeter for the past two years. Her personal research interests include Massachusetts, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York City and the British Isles.
