Join us on Saturday, February 13 from 2 - 3:00 p.m. for “Winter Backyard Birds”. This program is supported by a grant from the Marshfield Cultural Council, which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council. In this zoom presentation, Steve Hale follows an interactive, bird-quiz format that enables the audience to test their own knowledge and ask their own on-line follow-up questions. The first part of this presentation addresses the topic of the annual Audubon Bird Count and provides information on how newcomers can participate in a count near them. The second part of the presentation discusses some of the common and not-so-common birds that may be found in your backyards and neighborhoods in Summer time. Join the event to test your own ID skills, and learn about feeding to enhance the diversity of winter birds attracted to your yard. Advance registration is required. A zoom link will be sent to all registrants 24 hours prior to the program.
Bio:
Steve Hale, holds university degrees in marine biology, evolutionary biology, and ecology. He has lived in New Hampshire over 20 years and has explored most of the state. An avid hiker, birder, and experienced naturalist, Steve loves to share his experience and knowledge with others. In the mid-1990s, Steve moved to NH from Baton Rouge, LA and worked as a bird observer in the White Mountain National Forest. This experience honed his skills for birding by ear. Steve converted this experience into a doctoral dissertation at the University of New Hampshire, where he studied the habitat associations of the endemic Bicknell's Thrush using satellite remote sensing and geographic information systems. The project was also Steve's introduction to the world of hiking in the Whites. Steve hikes and backpacks over 200 miles every year and has observed many wonderful things.
